Better Be Scared! - 2006 Seawolf Records

Bio

This ain't your everyday, run of the mill singer songwriter. Chris demonstrates a mastery of fingerpickin' guitar and song writing flair on his always growing collection of original tunes. His sense of humor and irony also comes though. He has a boundless (and sometimes dark) imagination and seems to move effortlessly when writing humorous songs (The Critter Song), about falling in love (The Doo-Doo Song), bawdy humor (The Wolf and Red) or writing about murder for hire (Tell Me When). The instrumentation is sparse and haunting on the title song of his CD, "Better Be Scared!" and he rips up the guitar on “Double Take”. It's Chris's vocal, guitar and intimate approach that make each performance feel like a personal visit to your living room or front porch
.
Chris is a two time finalist in Mountain Stage's New Song Contest and a top ten finalist and honorable mention award winner in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition along with several other songwriting awards.

The Rugburns front man (and Jewel co-writer) Steve Poltz said, “Chris is a great songwriter!”

Just listen and you'll experience Chris's wry sense of humor, his masterful guitar playing and his poetic exploration of life's many corners. He has appeared on stage with artist such as The Asylum Street Spankers, Steve Poltz, Amy LaVere, Rachael Davis (of Shout Sister Shout!), Billy Harvey, Duke Tumatoe.
His debut CD "Better Be Scared!" was recorded in Spencer, Indiana at Stable Studios and is available at CDBaby.com, Amazon.com or Itunes.

The the discovery of the playing styles of the old country blues players from the 20's and 30's like Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Blake, Rev. Gary Davis changed Chris's approach to guitar playing early on. This led to discoveries of Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Leo Kottke and others. Obsessed by the styles of fingerstyle or "fingerpickin'" guitar, combined with the songwriting styles of Tom Waits, Guy Clark, Randy Newman, Todd Snider, Steve Poltz, Bob Schneider and others, led to develop the sound Chris has achieved.
