Short Bio:
Producer, Musician, and Award-Winning Songwriter, Elza Mueller-Roemer, wrote the promo theme & 13 of the songs for ABC's "Hopkins" as well as songs featured on the CW's "Smallville." She will headline The Tribeca Performing Arts Center, CUNY Arts Festival in New York City (Nov. 13th & 14th 2009) with an alluring mix of blues, jazz and folk-rock she aptly calls, "Acoustic Soul." Her voice, a disarming combination of strength and vulnerability, echoes the heart-felt sentiment of her haunting songs. Sharing the stage with such icons as Martin Sexton, Bob Weir, Catie Curtis, Richie Havens, Train, and Andi Vargas-Santana, Elza herself has performed at the legendary Bluebird Café-Nashville, The Sweetwater-San Francisco, Winterfolk Festival-Toronto, The Clearwater Revival The Towne Crier & The Living Room to name a few in New York. Elza recently released her third CD, "Gettin' Free," and appeared in the Independent Film, "Single" performing her song, "This Is Love."
Extended Biography:
Elza is as unique as her name. She possesses that rare ability to be vulnerable, almost naked on stage. Pulling from a palette of blues, jazz and folk -rock she creates her own distinguishable sound which she aptly calls, "Acoustic-Soul." Elza’s disarming combination of strength and vulnerability can be attributed to her unusual childhood and life experiences. She grew up back and forth between her father in Frankfurt, Germany and her mother in Charleston, SC. Elza's father, a German abstract mathematician and musician, insisted she learn to read music before learning to read words, and with that her love of music was born. In South Carolina she was heavily influenced by the live jazz, blues, gospel, and blue-grass that her parents would take her to see at the annual Spoleto Festival. After graduating high school Elza moved to New York City on a scholarship to study opera but after an intense study program in Italy, she returned to her first love of being a singer-songwriter. She then began to pave her own artistic path by connecting with audiences one show at a time. Elza shares, "Being on the road helped me find myself artistically and define what I wanted to create on my next full length album. I teamed up with veteran producer Jeff Eyrich at Bennett Studios and the results were magical.
Elza's voice will move you by the way she simply bares her soul. She's so down to earth you'd never know that she's shared the stage with Grammy Award Winner, Charlie Colin of Train, Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, Martin Sexton, Andrea Bocelli, Catie Curtis and Andi Vargas of Santana to name a few. She is equally passionate about leading her artist mentoring programs and performing as she is to making a difference through her music. Two time recipient of the ASCAP PLUS Awards, and 1st place winner of the 2005 Int’l Broadjam Songwriting Contest, and finalist in both the John Lennon & Billboard Song Contests. Elza’s music has been featured on numerous network series including the WB Smallville, ABC and NBC. In 2008 13 of Elza's songs were featured in "Hopkins" a new medical documentary on ABC and she performs "This is Love" in "Single" an independent film directed by Richard Atkinson, NY. She has played such legendary stages as the Bluebird Café in Nashville, Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta, Winterfolk Festival in Toronto, Sweetwater in San Francisco, The Mint in Los Angeles, The Clearwater Music Festival in New York as well as, Makor, The Oak Room, The Livingroom, The Towne Crier & The Bitter End to name a few. Currently she's producing Jess Turner, a very promising young artist who has been her voice student for the past two years and preparing a very special show for her Headlining Debut at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center, NYC Nov 13 & 14, 2009. With a world-class voice and melodies you’ll hum for days. Elza is one of those special artists that touches you with the first note and holds you spellbound until the last.

Artist: Elza
BEPOP Records
The progeny of an eclectic South Carolina visual artist and an eclectic German mathematician/musician, the eclectically named Elza learned to read music before she learned to read words. It is a fact well represented by her latest project, Gettin’ Free. The music is pure American melting pot infused by Caribbean breezes, stout German ale, sloe-eyed Southern girl saunter, and occasional New York attitude.
Elza possess a fetching voice that slides comfortably between Sheryl Crow and Jennifer Knapp, and she’s not afraid to use it. She can croon and warble, get down and get funky, and even indulge in a little blues and boogie when the song calls for it.
Not too far from gospel, the title cut explores the dry yearning of a soul bound by its own choices accompanied by a loopy melody and smoldering vocals. “This Is Love” extols the joys of love set to a gently rocking, island beat. The tune segues easily into the pure Americana of “My Romeo.” You can forget the whole ‘I kissed a girl’ crazed as Elza prefers the attention of “Boys, Boys, Boys.”
There is a subtle nod to Janis Joplin on the moody, slightly slurred “Heal,” which might be the best cut on the album. She plumbs the breadth and depth of the Southern singer/songwriter experience on “Charleston Corner.”
I could go on and on. There is not a throwaway cut on this twelve-song collection. Getting’ Free won’t be free from my CD player anytime soon.

Setlist
If playing solo:
Two 45 minute sets or one 75 minute set.
Her voice and stage persona are undeniably captivating. Her set usually ranges from intimately vulnerable ballads to passionate up-beat songs on guitar. She plays some of her most compelling songs on the piano. They showcase her voice and her ability to be vulnerable...almost naked on stage. She rarely leaves a dry eye in the audience after performing "I'm Still Breathing." Sometimes she includes a very special cover or two. When she performs material by Joni Mitchell her voice is one of the few that do them justice. When she performs with her back-up band, her music takes on more of a high energy Americana feel but without loosing her direct emotional connection with her audience.
