Biography

Hailing from Baltimore, MD and Washington D.C., Basshound has joined the ever-growing music scene as a "must see" for local music fans. Recently making the shift to a quartet after three years of gigging as a five-piece unit, Basshound brings a new level of energy to the dance floor night after night, fusing electrofunk grooves with carefully crafted song. Having released their debut E.P. in Spring 2007, Basshound proved to show the maturity of their individual playing on record, and since has received accolades from local newspapers and music critics, being named one of "Baltimore's Finest."

  Lovers of funk and the musically obscure can feast on the assortment of flavors provided by the quar...Lovers of funk and the musically obscure can feast on the assortment of flavors provided by the quartet Basshound. Hailed as one the finest bands in Baltimore and a “must see,” one must take a peek in from stirred curiosity. And in doing so, will soon discover this band of young, crunk musicians, none over the age of 25, are well seasoned beyond their years.
  
  In the cozy, cool setting of the hot club 13th Floor, Basshound shared the stage with Pittsburgh’s The Boogie Hustlers (another “must see” when they visit Charm City), sending the night into a musical vortex with rich musicianship and burnished charisma. Though forthcoming about a recently departed frontman, no beats were skipped, no tarnishes shone, and no remorse was detectable. Blatantly obvious, however, was groove, shimmering finesse, and undeniable tightness. The expressions on the faces of the crowd were of awe, and might I say simply, drink inspiring.
  
  Basshound clearly deserves a look, a listen, and certainly have earned their busy schedule around Baltimore, DC, and throughout Maryland. This touted group of fusion funk dealers integrates smooth melodies with hip beats in twang-laced superb unison. The foot-tapping, head-bobbing and irresistible grinning can be experienced at their live shows (a highly recommended prescription). Basshound will be performing their sophisticated, delightful music at The Santa Fe Café in College Park on February 23rd, the Rock and Roll Hotel in DC on February 29th, and Dante’s in Frostburg on March 15th. And if you can’t make these shows, check their schedule on myspace and their website (houndjam.com). A worthy dollar spent is their self-titled EP, available on iTunes. It’ll certainly get a lot of wear in your player.
