Biography
According to Monday Magazine, Glenna Garramone crafts “raw, emotional, and utterly captivating” songs; using anything from piano to her tap shoes, or a shaker made from lentils in a film canister. And that voice.
Keith Jarrett, Bach, and Tori Amos hop into a time machine, have a threesome, and give birth to a piano player who sounds a lot like Glenna. Guitar influences include Ms. Ani Difranco and Martin Sexton. Lyrically, Glenna’s honesty reflects early years spent listening to Leonard Cohen. She pursued her love of words by earning a B.F.A. in Poetry from the University of Victoria.
Whether moving people with her dramatic piano ballads, transforming an audience into her rhythm section for a vocal improv, or inviting folks to sing along, Glenna Garramone thrives on stage. From the main stage of Victoria's Folk Fest to an intimate show in a Montreal art gallery, Glenna’s performances earned her the title "Favourite Female Performer" by readers of The Record in 2000. In 2001, Glenna was one of 15 emerging songwriters selected to attend the BC Festival of the Arts. In 2002 she was nominated for “Best Female Vocalist” at the Victoria Independent Music Awards. In 2004, Glenna toured the west coast of the U.S.A., adding a musical element to the indie press touring circuit, The Perpetual Motion Roadshow. Her song “Bear Scat” was Grand Prize Winner of the 2010 ArtsWells Songwriting Contest.
Recorded in a solar-powered yurt on Molokai’i, Hawaii, her newest album, Thank You Half Moon will be released in the fall of 2011.
