INDIE ARTISTS PAY TRIBUTE TO DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
Los Angeles — Peaceful dreamer. Nonviolent visionary. Inspirational leader. These are phrases that have described the man who, because of his role in the civil rights movement, earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Had his life not been cut short, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have celebrated his 80th birthday on January 15, 2009. It is an interesting coincidence that the first black president of the United States will be inaugurated days later.
Part of this year’s celebration is Dream On! – a musical tribute created by a collaboration of independent artists dedicated to continuing Dr. King’s dream of an equal and just society.
The idea for Dream On! was born on Dr. King’s birthday last January – inspired by a recently rediscovered sermon given by King at Temple Israel in Hollywood, CA, in 1965. The sermon spoke of the insuppressible power of love. And Dr. King’s voice unmistakable voice reached over the airwaves to awaken yet another dreamer, Maya Armstrong, a writer, who would soon throw herself into the role of music producer. Almost one year to the day later, Dream On! has launched amidst pre-inaugural excitement, reminding the world to take a moment and look back… not so very long ago… and pay tribute to a man, his dream, and the movement that he led.
The participating artists hail from four continents, and their styles of music range from soulful rhythm and blues to heartfelt folk to upbeat Indie rock. The two-disc set is comprised of 30 tracks, which also are available for FREE download from the website (www.thedreamcontinued.org). Instead of paying for the music, the listener is invited to donate to one of three partnering organizations: Pathways To Peace, Pivot Legal Society, and The REACH Complex.
This January 15, join us in celebrating the life and work of one of the greatest figures in US history. Let our music inspire you to dream and let it awaken you into action. Dream On!

Looking for a great show on the West Coast or willing to take a major road trip...check out Elyse Haren
I wouldn't necessarily categorize Elyse Haren as new music but she definitely doesn't fall into the cut out bin at your local record store either.
Elyse Haren's debut album cover "Shut up and Listen" features a seductive picture of the songstress with an apple stuffed in her mouth while wearing a sleevless black dress. It is some of the most amazing cover photography I have seen since the glory days of album photography portraits in the mid-late 1970's.
I am not going to tit for tat you on what songs are better than others because I believe that you should listen to the whole album yourself and choose your own favorites because that is why you should buy or download the album. I am just going to tell you that it kicks ass.
What is stricking about the album is that it is technically sound and shows that she is talented not only as a musician but at working in a studio environment.
The personnel assisting Elyse with her new project include: Brett Chassen and Bob Kulick(Producers), Dave Collins(Mastering)--Linkin Park, Weezer, Soundgarden, Mark Needham(Remixing)-- The Killers, Fleetwood Mac, and Greenday. This lineup is sure to make for a recipe of sonic success for an already megatalented performer.
Elyse has three songs available for audio streaming on her myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/elyseharen and her songs are also available for download on i-tunes. She will be performing in Los Angeles, California at Genghis Cohen on October 30, 2008 at 8:00pm. Go to the show and download the music...we promise you will enjoy it.

One of the most successful...erri Nunn brings Berlin back to O.C. roots with San Juan show tonight!
One of the most successful and influential bands to emerge from the Orange County music scene will headline tonight at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano.
Terri Nunn, lead singer of the techno-pop group that formed in Orange County in the late 1970s and rose to international fame in the early '80s, reflected in a recent e-mail interview about how much she enjoys returning here to perform.
"Orange County had a very open ear to new music and still does," said Nunn, who now lives in the Los Angeles area.
"The people there were situated in an area that could get two extremely influential stations, KROQ in Pasadena and 91X in San Diego, both amazing stations for new cutting-edge music. So we had an audience and two radio stations willing to take a chance on us. Without you guys, we would never have happened. There is nothing like playing your hometown, and I am honored to get the opportunity to play for the people of Orange County especially."
Berlin's first release with Nunn on vocals was 1982's "Pleasure Victim," a seven-song disc that featured a number of groundbreaking New Wave tracks, including "The Metro," "Masquerade" and the controversial "Sex (I'm A…)."
"Sonically, we were inspired by the European synthesizer bands Kraftwerk and Ultravox and found other musicians to work with who felt like we did," Nunn said.
"It took writing and arranging a lot of songs to find the right balance of sounds that became the Berlin sound. I would have to say it was 'The Metro' that finally defined it for us. When we finished that, all of us were literally, 'Wow! That's what we want the rest of this record to be like!'"
When Berlin hits the stage in San Juan Capistrano, fans can expect to hear many of the tracks off "Pleasure Victim," as well as subsequent hits such as "No More Words" and "Take My Breath Away," the latter from the movie "Top Gun."
Although Berlin disbanded in 1987, Nunn reformed the group in 1999 and since has found more acclaim and recognition.
"I am very fortunate to still be able to do this as my job," Nunn said.
"I enjoy it more now than I ever did. Someone asked me the other day, when in my career did I finally feel I could sing? God, it took me 10 years just to feel like I had a tiny handle on it. … Now I feel like back at the beginning when I sang for fun, without an agenda. I can create whatever I want, and now I get to do it without being so freaked out all the time. It pays to stick with something."
Today's concert featuring Berlin and up and coming singer/songwriter, Elyse Haren. The show will begin at 8 p.m. at The Coach House, 33157 Camino Capistrano, San Juan Capistrano.
