Biography

Jena has been writing songs for over 25 years. She has an Associate of Art degree in music from Santa Barbara City College and a Bachelor of Art degree in music from University of California Santa Barbara. Jena has just finished her first book about songwriting called, "Change The World - Write Your Song- fundamentals and beyond for the aspiring singer/songwriter - book I." She is already working on her second book. She is also recording her 3rd CD called, "The Voyage Of Ophelia" with co-producer Robinson Eikenberry. Her new love is hosting "Write Your Song!" workshops around the world and donating time to help others learn how to live their dreams from writing songs.

Jena started writing and recording at home in the early 80s after seeing the band, The Who live in LA. She sang in folk groups around Santa Barbara and then joined an all girl band in the eighties called “Wet Paint.” In 1985, she recorded 5 songs with producer and famed keyboard player of the 70s band The Turtles, Andy Cohan. Her next to last CD, “Faded Fiction”was recorded in 1998 with Ben Forrest Davis (formally with Sugarcult) as co-producer, drummer, guitar player and background vocalist. Also featured are some of the same musicians from “The Ballad Of Calamity;” Tony Ybarra, Keith Douglas and Dr. John Clark. “Faded Fiction” was recorded during the time Jena was attending, Santa Barbara City College. After receiving her degree from the University in 2001, Jena plunged back into her songwriting and in 2004 released her songs recorded in 1998 as, “Faded Fiction” then went on to record, “The Ballad Of Calamity." Currently, She is promoting her book, hosting workshops, recording and writing. To promote her book (and to see her dying sister in Wyoming) she has booked a tour some gigs on the way.   From Santa Barbara comes solo artist JENA DOUGLAS. Jena has recently released a new CD called 'The B...From Santa Barbara comes solo artist JENA DOUGLAS. Jena has recently released a new CD called 'The Ballad Of Calamity' that features twelve songs. The songs follow the softer edge of pop/rock with hints of folk influences. She has similar vocal styles to Stevie Nicks as evident on the first track, the catchy acoustic uptempo 'Do You Dream'. Americana if you like at it's finest. Most of the album continues in this style with hints and influences from Bob Dylan to Heart and The Eagles. Best songs on the album for me were the excellent 'Again Someday' a smooth gentle almost melodic tune with fine guitar work and superb vocals from Jena and the superb 'You Don't Wanna Know'. Now this track is moody and has a strong seventies Americana feel, but still melodic and modern enough to give Gwen Stefani and Sheryl Crow a run for their money. The Ballad 'Walk On By' is also a very good song; gentle with crisp sharp guitars coupled with trumpets etc. very moody song with lots going on that keeps you interested.
