>Short bio (100 words)
Noga blends various fragrances. Fiercely independent, she is an unashamedly fulfilled woman who takes delight in singing songs to connect light. Yes, she has pipes, alright! And she’s daring, enough to mimic the Castafiores of this world while calling a spade a spade without missing a single beat. If she had chosen to do French pop music, delicate and suave, we would know it…But no, she prefers partaking in the delights of the forbidden fruits, freshly picked in an orchard where only dreamers can roam. She strikes a chord with a voice that caresses listeners just the right way and makes them feel like they have wings.

Learning
1961: I was born a family of “Bobos”, before the term was even coined! My mother escaped from Berlin while it was still possible. My father seduced her in Israel and they went to Switzerland seeking their fortune. They made me when they were nicely settled in. I was lucky: I grew up in a lovely environment. So what’s the problem? Well, I wanted to be on stage… but in my family, nothing was as important as one’s studies. I chose the law. A lawyer... it sounds good and there’s plenty of acting, wouldn’t you agree? Not nearly enough for me. So, I also took courses at the Conservatory and abandoned the bar as soon as it was possible. Singing and acting were my goals. I also explored the body-mind instrument, which I still train to this day.
Discovering
Looking back, I was definitely adventurous! I threw myself into the musical adaptation of a novel by Amélie Plume and took on the role of Plumette during a tour across Switzerland. Then I stayed in Israel for 6 months to play in the first adaptation of the novel My Affair with Brecht,.
Singing
Right now, I’m more of a jazz fan and I’m recording an adaptation of tunes by Kurt Weil with Kirk Lightsey, Sangoma Everett, Ricardo del Fa, and Simon Beletty, entitled Kurt Weill Jazz Songs – Noga & Quartet. I can’t believe it: it’s labelled “Sony Classical”!!!
Well, that lifted some weight from my shoulders. I managed to prove to myself that, YES I can. After that, say what you want, but I’m giving myself the right to do what I really love: songs. The sharing of simple, accessible stories through music.
Sharing
I came back to Geneva, but there was no place to practice... No space where experienced artists could mix and mingle with amateurs, where artists could meet, experiment, and share. I looked for a studio, a team, and ended up creating Catalyse. We rolled up our sleeves and got to work: paint and paperwork! Come and see for yourself. We’re very proud of the result! We are running a school for amateurs, a space that is stage, residence, and program, in addition to our “project lab for promoting artists’ work”. It’s quite a challenge! By the way, thank you Serge Beyer for the very nice article you wrote in Longueur d’Ondes, May 2010. www.catalyse.ch
Persevering
2006: created the record label “Viser la Lune” and released “Rien de Neuf sauf les Bulles”, our first album recorded in the Catalyse studio. It was the first album on which I sang French songs. Roland le Blevennec, to whom artists from the emerging Francophone music scene owe much, did me the honour of getting me a place in the Festival Voix de Fête. Unfortunately, I missed my stint with the pros! The project wasn’t ready. The band lacked unison…To this day, I still have to work hard to make certain planners forget what happened back then!
Diversifying
I was told that I needed to paint a clear portrait of myself. I henceforth represented the “French song” and must remain in the category of the “French song”. The problem was that I also have a million projects in my head… as well as many languages… So, somewhat secretly, without talking about it too much, we started working on the first album in our NProject collection. Why? Because we felt like composing a series of albums with music that would bring people together. Nothing more, nothing less! The objective was to ask artists of all ages, from different backgrounds, believers, atheists, agnostics, people brought up in all kinds of religions and traditions, to come together and share in order to give traditional songs and prayers a sound that transcends the individual and touches the universal. The mysterious NProject.1/Berechit, produced by the enigmatic and talented Ed Lyve, was released by Viser la Lune with its white cover, itself rather secretive. I will also take advantage of Jean-Jacques Perrey and Claude Chazam’s visit to baptise the album between friends. How does that sound, Jean-Jacques Perrey? He’s the father of electronic music, a Frenchman, unknown in his own country, yet celebrated by generations of musicians throughout the world.

By the way… did I mention that NProject 1 is in Hebrew? Which reminds me, did you know that of 200 million people who speak French on this lovely planet, only 65 million are actually French from France? Naturally, all the rest still communicate, from birth, in French AND numerous other languages. For many, the future of the French language lies in diversity, which becomes a common cultural reference and value. So, when do you think French will become a choice rather than a sign of allegiance to France, its culture, politics, and so on? But I digress...
Touring
Let’s get back to our subject! Regarding songs, I’m still not everybody’s favourite, it’s the least I can say, but I have a growing audience and, believe it or not, I do go on tour! Small friendly places, not so nice spaces, and musical double bills (which looks real good on a resume!), like with Jeanne Cherhal, Kent, Eddy La Gooyatsch, Presque Oui, Les Vendeurs d’Enclume (and many others). Kent even wrote a song for which I composed the music, called Geneva Tranquille. Zedrus too, dear Zedrus: Rêver avant l’Heure. Okay, I wouldn’t want you to think that I’m not busy, lest my manager scold me. Finally, did you guess that I’m a bit on the blond side (particularly when I come back from the hairdresser!), but I also sing, play the piano, compose my own songs, and write or co-write lyrics. I’m directing my own project, which is no mean feat... (I also brush my teeth, drive my children around, run errands, do the housework, complain, laugh, and so on and so forth!).
Spring 2009:
Several concerts in Paris, Espace Jemmapes (La Scène du Canal) with Zedrus and Jerrycan in the project “Suisse-Moi”.
Summer 2009:
After the Montreux Jazz (In the Park, no less!), we travelled throughout France, de Navare, and more!
2010-2011:
We just finished the new album, Miel&Poivre/Poivre&Miel,
produced by Stuart Bruce (main projects: Juliette, Clarika, Paco de Lucia, and John Mc laughlin... really, no kidding!). In his words: “Last but not least, I’m currently working on the album for Swiss singer Noga, an artist impossible to define but equally impossible to ignore, so I will be doing my very best to ensure that you don’t!”
