Biography
Lantz Lazwell, grew up in Sacramento California where he started his career playing with High school rock bands. His first band (Pimptations) was discovered by local legend, Frank Hannon of Tesla. (One of the first rock bands to make it big out of Sacramento). However, the band was young and unwilling to sign contracts and soon after broke-up. Lantz then went on to become one of the driving forces in the Sacramento music scene. Through the support of fans and critics Lantz recieved several Sacramento Music Award nominations. After separating from several successful bands, (Freakza Nature, Defy, The Suspects,The Pimptations) Lantz was given the opportunity to work with John Phillips from the Mama’s and the Papa’s. John recognized Lantz’s strong song writing ability and original vocal style. He offered him studio time w/ the producer that was responsible for John’s latest album with the Rolling Stones (Harvey Goldberg). Unfortunately Lantz was the last artist ever to record at his studio, during that session John Phillips passed away.
Now focusing on a solo career, Lantz has become an accomplished singer song writer as well a producer of Rock, Funk and Hip Hop music for other up and coming artist. In the first few months of moving to L.A. in 2005, Lantz landed a position as musical/vocal arranger w/ former vice president of Motown Records, Jeffrey Bowen. Then after winning an L.A. Music Awards for "Rock Male Vocalist of the Year" in Nov., Lantz focused on completing his Debut album with Platinum Producer Nino Ducati (Maxwell, WyClef Jean, Burning Spear), which is ready to be released in June 2009.
Currently, Lantz is in production with his New Band; Kim Manning on vocals and keys (Of George Clinton's P-Funk All-Stars), James Grey on bass (Spearhead), Jason Chang on keys and Brian Ulrich on Drums. They all meet in Norwood Fisher's (Fishbone) side project "Trulio Disgracias". Since Lantz and Kim have joined forces they have been touring the country playing festivals (SXSW, SBSF 5, Nelson Ledges, etc..) and opening for legendary Artist, George Clinton (checkout their newest video on youtube w/ George, Kim and Lantz sharing the stage).
Lantz’s sound and persona has been described as Hendrix meets Jack Johnson: Sly Stone times Stevie Wonder, a tasteful blend of Rock, Hip Hop, Funk and Soul. His style is innovative and exciting, his performance's animated and entertaining. His songs are truly insightful and original . Lantz will continue his efforts to spread his love for life through music………. The Question is can you Help!
