Laura Thomas Band delivers emotionally charged electric songwriter-rock with powerful vocals and rich instrumentation

Artist Information

Biography

Funky and fierce, Laura Thomas combines the power of rock and funk with probing lyrics and intense songwritng. Laura's powerhouse vocals come at you with Ani Difranco's tell-it-like-it-is defiance, Alanis Morissette's sheer, clear power, and the sultriness of Norah Jones. The result is an audio-shock of emotional truth.

The Village Voice recently praised Laura for her "thick-skinned song-poems in jazzoid rhythms." The Washington Post stated that "Her voice is capable of tracing melodies as sinuous as the Rock Creek Parkway, and she has a soft spot for writing tender, compassionate or introspective ballads that help set her apart from the rant'n'roll crowd."

Over the past 3 years, Laura Thomas has taken the stage across the country, from San Francisco to New York, packing such prestigious venues as Rockwood Music Hall, Mercury Lounge, and Joe's Pub. She has also captivated students at Dartmouth University, Columbia University, and Middlebury College, among many others.

In 2002 Laura co-produced her first album, "On My Sleeve," followed in 2004 by her second CD, "Slow." In September 2005, the Laura Thomas Band released its first full-band album, "Step to the Wire," featuring the song "Blind Trinity," a political allegory about the Bush administration's foreign policy. Her final release in 2008, Live at Rockwood, showcases some of her most sophisticated songwriting.

Laura's biting, crafty lyrics, massive voice, and passionate stage presence make for an emotionally charged show.
