Biography
Brent Lillie, who resides on Queensland's Gold Coast - a beautiful stretch of white sandy beaches on Australia's eastern coastline - won the very first songwriting contest he entered. 'The Cat Song' took out first place at a local country music competition in 2001.
Since then, he has enjoyed success at regional, state and national levels, culminating in a win at Australia's premium songwriting contest, the ASA Awards.
Brent recently received his third Honorable Mention in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition. A runner-up and Honorable Mention winner in the USA Songwriting Contest, Brent also reached the finals of the We Are Listening Lyric Writer Awards in early 2011. Several of his songs have been selected for single song contracts by Australian independent publishing company, Meat Pie Music.
A seasoned professional, Brent has performed at numerous venues in his home state of Queensland and has toured extensively throughout the Northern Territory and New South Wales. He recently received an invitation to perform his original material at Nashville's famous Bluebird Cafe.
Brent's music has been described as hilarious, clever, moving and brilliant. Hayden Bell, publisher for The Veronicas, described Brent's songs as lyrically powerful and stated that he had rarely seen better. Eddie Rayner (Crowded House, Former Musical Director New Zealand Idol) was also impressed by Brent's 'powerful lyrics and great hooks'.
With multiple wins in the Tasmania/New Zealand Songwriting Awards, TSA SEQ National Songwriting Competition and the Northern Territory Songwriting Awards, a semi-finalist spot in the UK Songwriting Contest, three finalist placings in the Australian National Country Songwriting Contest and an Honourable Mention in the Billboard World Songwriting Contest, Brent's songwriting pedigree is impeccable and his talents undeniable. His extensive catalogue spans several genres including comedy, Australiana, country, ballads and jazz.
As well as working as a soloist and in several duos and trios, Brent performs in the role of Kris Kristofferson in Australia's Highwaymen Tribute Show.

'The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) has announced its finalists today. Congratulations,...'The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) has announced its finalists today. Congratulations, the song "I've Done It" that you entered in Comedy/Novelty has been selected as a finalist. Being selected an ISC finalist is an accomplishment that acknowledges true songwriting talent. With only 287 finalists chosen out of over 15,500 entrants, this is an extraordinary achievement, and we are very pleased to offer our congratulations' - Candace Avery, Founder/Director, International Songwriting Competition.
'Strong lyrics and great hooks' - Eddie Raynor (Crowded House, NZ Idol).
'Wonderful music' - Peter Beattie, Former Premier of Queensland.
'Many of the songs are world-class. Brent has a strong grasp of a lyric - rarely have I seen better' - Hayden Bell ( The Veronicas).
'Simply great songs that leave you wanting more' - John Nutting, Saturday Night Country.
'Enjoyable songs with a ready-made niche audience' - Nick Erby, Australian Country Music authority.
'All the songs are winners. Barbed Wire is full of energy and fun' - Trevor Johnson, Country Capers.
'Whenever Brent presents a new song I invariably discover that I know the melody four bars before it gets there. Only a handful of songwriters possess the ability to endow a listener with this unexplainable musical precognisance. Mix this with Brent's lyrical talents and I am absolutely amazed that publishers aren't crawling over each other, waving contracts' - Adrian Stuckey, internationally recognised sound engineer (Crowded House, Split Enz) and former Musical Director, New Zealand Idol.
