Bio
Gary is no stranger to the recorded note. Since 1995, his many musical tastes spawned almost as many musical creations (he claims to have written over 1,000 songs). Throughout high school and college, he worked at the vinyl shops and independent clubs in Baltimore where he saw bands go from closet to club to arena. Fast forward to his most recent project, the Notions, founded by Gary and Kris Heath in 2004 with recent additions Bryan Elliott and Rick Bowman.
Gary B & the Notions play non-power pop, pow-pow indie rock inspired as much by their surroundings as their influences. So it only makes sense that their new album, “How Do We Explode” was recorded by friend and comrade J Mendicino (of Pretty & Nice) at Esthudio in Boston, MA. The album is a shift toward abstract pop arrangement with a natural grit you might find somewhere deep in the 60’s psychedelic catacombs or the mid-90’s Seattle-splosion.
Gary and the boys have shared stages with Sufjan Stevens, Marnie Stern, Pretty & Nice, Deleted Scenes, ...and you will know us by the trail of dead, Title Tracks, of Montreal, the Dismemberment Plan, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Wye Oak, and a million more that even they can’t remember.
How Do We Explode is due out on Modern Hymnal Recordings on May 8th, 2012.
