Biography

Pyromesh are an aurally intense metal band hailing from the desolate streets of Perth, Australia that craft a highly unique sound best described as both melodic and abrasive, blistering and serene, epic and progressive. They combine a double-guitar attack with authoritative bass, vicious drumming, acidic vocals and wall-of-sound song composition to create music that must be heard to be believed.

Pyromesh have been metal heavyweights since their emphatic launch into the scene in late 2001 due to their huge sound supported by a chaotic and energetic stage show. Hard choices, lineup shuffles and a thirst for success has seen Pyromesh evolve into the grinding and resilient machine that it is today.

Their debut album, Omnia, features eight tracks comprising a 45 minute journey into the realms of chaos, destruction and apathy. Meticulously produced to an international standard, Omnia is a rich and textural album that reveals something new on each spin as the listener travels through the many layers of instrumentation and orchestration. Finely packaged in a lavishly illustrated fold-out case and accompanying booklet, Omnia is a must have album for the metal enthusiast and music-lover alike.

  How reassuring it is to hear metal of such high-quality production emerging from this country. Per...How reassuring it is to hear metal of such high-quality production emerging from this country. Perth's Pyromesh emerge here as a serious and dedicated force on the Australian Metal scene. Whilse employing both a familiar loud/soft dynamic and the standard violent imagery and aggression, this is a nonetheless engaging and impressive debut album. Vocalist Ael, though less pleasing when he actually sings, is at one moment snarling, the next guttural, the next piercing. Chunky, rapid-fire guitars and double-kicks, overlaid with screaming, give way into more expansive, melodic sections that give the album a welcome depth and almost progressive texture. That being said, Pyromesh are better when they just put the foot down and enter the more punishing movements on the album, spitting lyrics that move from such global issues as war and atrocity (as on the title track) to more introspective concerns (as on 'One Man Knife Fight,'). Though perhaps not yet of an international standard, Pyromesh definitely intend to get there (Chris).

  This was everything, that you'd want in a metal record, speed, skill and shit hot production.
  I enjoyed this album for the sonic experience alone. Then for the skill in involved in the songs (have fun with timing changes and thinking how the fuck did you pull that off?) and finally the pure agression fired at you in control spurts.
  This is the best and most listenable Perth Metal Album i've ever heard. I enjoyed this and highly recommend anyone to give it a go.

  Although having weathered several line-up shuffles since their formation (As far back as late 2001),...Although having weathered several line-up shuffles since their formation (As far back as late 2001), and having only emerged with two modestly successful releases within that time (2003's five track E.P. 'Malevolence' and 2006's stop-gap three track single 'Year Of The Phoenix'), Perth (Western Australia) based act Pyromesh have finally overcome the challenges of the past to complete work on their debut full-length effort.
  Comprised of eight tracks, 'Omnia' is the culmination of two years hard work from the five-piece act (Who comprise of vocalist Ael Bennett, guitarists Alex Lassetter and Clint Lawrence, bassist Joel Gardner and drummer Ashley Doodkorte), and their hard work has certainly paid off.
  The opening track 'Apathy' immediately proves that Pyromesh are anything but your standard progressive/alternative metal outfit, with co-producer Stuart James' unobtrusive string arrangements helping add some weight to the riff structures. The use of keyboards lends an air of drama to the heavier moments in the song too, giving Pyromesh a sound that is very much progressive sounding, yet undeniably aggressive and metallic in equal measure.
  The first three minutes of follow-up track 'Bathed In Flame' sees the band in full-on aggressive mode with Bennett in particular leading the pack with his diverse screaming efforts. But it's around the halfway mark that the song heads in a completely different direction when it gives way for some great Nile-like Middle Eastern influences. The title track 'Omnia' once again reveals a different side of the band's collective sound, with Bennett showcasing his clean vocals alongside his proven scream abilities, with the keyboards/samples dotted throughout giving the song a slight industrialised feel.
  Living up to their names, 'Hellbent', 'Jezebel' and 'One-Man Knife Fight' see the band deliver a few punishing no-nonsense progressive tinged blackened/modern thrash metal tunes, whereas the lengthier pair of 'Perceptionless' and 'Oblivion', see the band stretch themselves in a musical sense, with the progressive influences within the band's sound coming to the fore.
  It may have taken Pyromesh a long time to finally get things off the ground, but with the end result being 'Omnia', there's no denying that the time spent has well and truly worked in the band's favour.

Relentless, pounding double-kick, abrasive guitars and searing, screamo-vocals are the foundation, with electronic flourishes and atmospheric detours completing the picture. The production is of a high standard, in both the sound and the absolutely gorgeous artwork and matte digipack presentation. With a debut as good as this, Pyromesh are destined for great things.

  The album opens in fine, and slightly experimental style with Apathy, and comparisons can be made with fellow Aussies Alchemist. They step things up a notch on Bathed in Flame, although this track also skews into unexpected territory roughly half way through as well.
  From here the album lurches from one feel to another, but tastefully and never in a disjointed fashion. Their willingness to experiment and eschew traditional song structures is engaging, and keeps the listener guessing and never feeling bored. It’s heavy, but also atmospheric and dynamic, characteristics often lacking in extreme bands.
  Best track is the grandiose Hellbent. Least favourite is the more thrash flavoured One Man Knife Fight, which doesn’t quite seem to work with same fluency as the rest of the album. This band is at their best when locking onto a massive groove rather than playing at balls-out speed. My only other beef is a mix that lacks a little in bottom end, and a slightly less than punchy drum sound.
  Pretty small gripes, however, when the overall effect is so strong, and the fact that their attempts to do different things work rather nicely on the most part. Omnia shows a band with great promise, who only get better from what is already a solid starting point.
