Biography

The introductory piano notes of “You Will Be”, the opening track to Hue’s latest album Starting Fires exemplify the group’s love for melody and subtlety, yet before long the song explodes into a powerful arrangement of vocals, rhythm, and strong instrumentation that set the tone not only for the record, but for the sound of Hue. Hailing from Toronto ON, Hue is an exciting five-piece pop-rock group that united late 2009. Since that time, the members of Hue have persistently worked on creating a unique and upbeat sound that is compelling both on and off stage.

Hue is soon to independently release their second full-length record Starting Fires, following their critically acclaimed self-titled sophomore record. On this record, the band allowed themselves to expand their sound, both in content and instrumentation, as well as push each other to try new and challenging approaches in the execution of each song. Starting Fires was produced by YouTube phenomenon and close friend Mike Tompkins (mike-tompkins.com), who also produced the Grammy-nominated “The Old Prince” by Canadian rapper Shad. Upon release of the album (slated for late June 2011) the band plans to perform extensively to promote the record.

As of today, Hue is comprised of lead singer/songwriter Danny Paton Jr, his sister and keyboardist Jessica Paton, guitarist Darcy Finck, bassist Andrew Jones, and Andy Schmidt on drums. The sound of Hue circles around an array of genres, ranging from rock, to folk, to melodic pop. However, the group remains thoughtful when sonically crafting each song, keeping vocals, harmonies, soft synth lines, a strong rhythmic presence and complimentary guitar work at the forefront of the writing process. These elements merge in harmony to create a sound that is distinct to Hue.

Hue’s live show always proves to be an exciting one for crowds of any size in nearly any venue. The band combines exuberant energy with unique live tactics that excite and involve fans of any musical taste. Over their career, the band has supported acts such as We Are Wolves, The Wooden Sky, Two Hours Traffic, Lights, Said The Whale, Hollerado, The Spades, Paper Lions, Library Voices, Hey Ocean, and numerous others.

Aside from their love for each other and their listeners, Hue truly have a passion for music and will continue to write and perform well into the future. This is just the beginning.
