What is ther to say about this band that the name doesn't already tell? Front man vocalist/guitarist P.M. Eaton has played and recorded with Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Dawn Robinson (En Vogue & Lucy Pearl), Kelis, Kindred, Gerald Levert, T.M. Stevens (Pretenders,Joe Cocker, James Brown, Steve Vai), Bernie Worrell (P-Funk, Pretenders, Talking Heads), Will Calhoun (Living Colour), Al Pitrelli (Megadeth, Alice Cooper), Van Romaine (Dixie Dregs, Naughty By Nature), Steph Pockets, Pat Travers, and Narada Michael Waldon (look under your Mama's record collection under producer!).

A new Christ centered electric blues & soul from the heart experience, phunkyman is the deliverer of gut wrenching spirit stirring music guaranteed to inspire. It doesn't matter if you are into guitar pyrotechnics, funky horn lines, dancing driving drums and bass, or soul stirring vocals and meaningful lyrics - they are all within the show and are guaranteed to please. P.M. Eaton and Dora Eaton are storytellers of love and loss, and translate the emotions of sometimes hard to discuss life experiences into eloquent and heartfelt songs. The multi-layered production is superb, the soul shouting is downright sexy, and the frenetic wah solo at 2:13 (punctuated by horns) is electrifying. -Michael Molenda

  At 2:55pm, I returned to the Wingdom Fest to check out PHUNKYMAN throw down hard on a 4-song set. Th...At 2:55pm, I returned to the Wingdom Fest to check out PHUNKYMAN throw down hard on a 4-song set. The band started out with the FONKAY "Here Comes De Funk", featuring the hot 'n' funky lead guitar stylings of Phunkyman himself...the highlight of this short set was the enormous blast of slap-bass, thumpin' bass fonk of Warren Davis, playing "Thank You Fallentime Be Mice Elf Agin"....ENUF FUNK 4 YA RUMP, baba....people next door at the movie theater were probably in a daze of confusion, petrified...wondering "What the hell is that?!!" The funk got stronger with the funk-rock explosion of "Give Me Something I Can Use"....featuring shredding lead guitar fire by Phunkyman and the powerful drumming of "Bam Bam" himself, Andre Adams!! "(You Are) My Funky Sunshine" was good, but better was the bass-poppin', lead guitar stirring "Guitar Slinger", featuring Dora Eaton backing up her husband Phunkyman on backing vocals & percussion. At 3:20pm, it was all over.

  At 8:35pm, Phunkyman started his funky show with some tunes from the new CD "My Kinda Blue: Phunkyma...At 8:35pm, Phunkyman started his funky show with some tunes from the new CD "My Kinda Blue: Phunkyman #2". The nasty funk-rock of "Give Me Something I Can Use" was filled with heavy bass tones by Warren Davis and loud crankin' guitarisms (by Phunkyman himself)! "Here Comes De Funk" was good with the majestic horns of saxophonist Elliot Levin, trumpeteer Dave and trumpeteer Eric Bigelow. "Guitar Slanger" featured some more of the Phunkyman guitar fire! "Flyin'" was a mid-tempo R&B song with a good lead guitar solo, while "Can't Hide Your Beauty" stood out with emphasis on conga percussion (provided by Dora Eaton & Pedro) and lead vocals by Dora! "(You Are My) Funky Sunshine" started out with a fine bass workout by Warren. All of this stuff anchored by the master drummer, Mr. Andre "Bam-Bam" Adams. The Phunkyman set was over at 9:05pm.

  At 11:50pm, Phunkyman & his merry band of funkateers came out to perform the JB's classic "Pass the ...At 11:50pm, Phunkyman & his merry band of funkateers came out to perform the JB's classic "Pass the Peas" featuring the phunky horns of Elliot Levin (saxophone) and Eric Bigelow (trumpet)...along with the lead guitar blazing and vocoder vocals of Phunkyman himself!!! "Here Comes De Funk" was Warren Davis's chance to flaunt his secret weapon (like TM Stevens), "walking backwards" on the bass, heavy funk bass slappin' and some wah-wah bassisms...along with Andre "Bam-Bam" Adams being the anchor holdin' it down tight on the drums!! "Waiting on You" featured a nasty lead guitar solo. Warren started playing some good bass lines and Phunkyman & the rest of the band jumped into a short rock jam. "Can't Have You" was a dark, emotional song sounding a little like King's X "Mr. Evil"...featuring some Hendrix-style guitar pyrotechnics by the Phunkyman himself! Great things with "Summertime"...with Warren, there was enough funky bass poppin' to straighten the curls on his head (AND THIS GUY IS BALD!!)...the trumpet solo was very good...with the sax solo, Elliott blew so hard that we had to call paramedics after he lost consciousness...like the storm that passed through the previous day, Bam-Bam was tearing stuff up on drums (anyone for a 30-second drum roll??)...you could hear glass shatter at the supersonic frequency of Phunkyman's lead guitar assault (everyone ducked underneath the tables)!!!!! The Phunkyman experience was over at 12:40am.

  THIS WAS THE EVENT TO CHECK OUT..........PHUNKYMAN AT THE KIMMEL CENTER!!!! THERE WERE AT LEAST 500 ...THIS WAS THE EVENT TO CHECK OUT..........PHUNKYMAN AT THE KIMMEL CENTER!!!! THERE WERE AT LEAST 500 PEOPLE CHECKING OUT THE COLOSSIAL FORCE OF PHUNKYMAN!! THE FANS WERE DIGGING THE HELL OUT OF THE MUSIC.........PEOPLE WERE ALL OVER THE DANCE FLOOR JAMMIN'......THIS IS THE TYPE OF VENUE WHERE PHUNKYMAN NEEDS TO PERFORM!!!
  
  
  I arrived a little late at 10:15pm to check out PHUNKYMAN doing the funky song "Here Comes De Funk".....it was a long jam featuring a rapper, a little bit of Chuck Brown's "Bustin' Loose", and a heavy, stanky, odorious bass attack by the madman, Warren Davis!!! "Waitin' on You" featured a fiery lead guitar solo by the one and only PHUNKYMAN! "Superstition" featured more of the guitar soloing, plus some nasty, nasty slap-bassisms and powerful drumming by Andre Adams! "Summatime" and "Trance" were good, but better was the performance of "Voodoo Chile" by two of Phunkyman's students (he teaches guitar class).......both student guitarists were very hardcore and nasty in their rendition of the Jimi Hendrix classic..........and it didn't hurt to hear Phunkyman doing the lead vocals!!There was an adaptation of James Brown's "Sex Machine" called "Love Machine" (the name change was for the benefit of the young ones in the crowd.....it was an ALL AGES event).......a long jam with some funky horns (Joe Augar, Elliott Levin, Dave and another horn player) and some fans dancing onstage (including one Dr. Brookenstein, in a purple pimp outfit).....included was the New Orleans standard "Iko Iko"!!!! "Funky Sunshine" was followed by Dora Eaton's performance of "Lady Marmalade".........personally, I don't understand why "Sex Machine" was changed if the band could get away with doing the somewhat racy lyrics of "Lady Marmalade" (and if you know French, you'd know what that famous chant meant)........anyway, Dora's vocals sounded good, but they seemed too low in the mix during the first verse. "Kiss" was da bomb, with funky, funky rhythm guitaring by Phunkyman and Elliott Levin blowing his horn.......oops, pardon my pun.......blowing the cobwebs outta everyone's minds with some high-pitched sax screeching!! The show was over at 12:00 midnight.
  

Setlist

Sets can range from 20 minutes to 2 1/2 hours long and can include covers of Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Blind Boys of Alabama, Traditional Gospel, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Prince, Ohio Players and other funk n rock oddities. We exist to rock the house!
