ZIA's debut release Underground, fluttered within the TOP 50 the first 10 weeks of it's national promotion, and peaked at 29 in the ARIA Club Charts generating repeated spins on specialist dance radio shows Australia wide. Underground reached Top 10 International Category in the Music Oz Awards, and distributed on Ozgigs4 Sampler DVD in Germany, Belgium, France and USA. Underground was finalist in USA Billboard Song Competition 2010, received Honourable Mention in USA Song Wars 2009 and features on the USA site INDIEFEED April 2009.

ZIA's second single lifted from her album is City of Love (+ Independent remixes by Ministry of Sound DJ Craig Obey) airing on Music Mix USA October 2009 for Music Video Competition syndicated and watched in 40m homes USA, reaching Top 10 in the Music Oz Awards , featuring on 3 compilation albums (2 x Australia + USA) finalist in USA Billboard Song Competition 2010. City of Love Radio Remix music video finalist in UK New Music Video Awards 2009.

Whilst honing her song-writing craft, ZIA (vocals, bass, guitar) has supported some of Australia's finest talent including Sneaky Sound System, Vandalism, Rogue Traders, and Marcia Hines. She has also toured extensively performing gigs at Sydney's The Basement, The East Coast Blues and Roots Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, and Brisbane's Pride.

  Sunshine Coast musician Zia is absolutely killing it with her second single, City of Love. The video clip for the track garnered international attention with plays on Music Mix USA and Rage here in Australia. It was a finalist in the UK New Music Video Awards.
  We put Zia on the hot seat to find out what makes her tick in her own city of love.
  What’s your weekend ritual?
  Playing live gigs on the Coast and beyond, and writing tunes from my studio, overlooking Kings Beach.
  What’s your CD of the moment?
  Paloma Faith.
  What were you like at high school?
  Total nerd, A-grade student, goodie shiny shoes. Everything revolved around theatre and music.
  What have you read lately that really got you thinking?
  What You Don’t Know Could Be Killing You by Don Colbert MD, and Logic 8 Guidebook (music software program manual) : very exciting stuff.
  What’s the oldest item of clothing you own?
  My great grandmother’s exquisite sequined dress of the ‘60’s that she wore to entertain Princess Alexandra, when my grandparents owned the original Perle Hotel – now the Kings Beach Tavern.
  What song always makes you happy?
  The Way You Make Me Feel – Michael Jackson.
  What new age therapy or product do you swear buy?
  Ferroxin – Newways and my Elanra personal ionizor.
  Dogs or cats?
  Both – Mum’s dalmation, Congo, and my blue Russian, Puss In Boots.
  
  If you could play and instrument, what would it be?
  I do – guitar, bass, keyboards, sing, write, jam.
  Next holiday destination?
  New York City to visit my cousin.
  The last movie that made you cry?
  Hook – laughed til I cried.
  What are your vices?
  I have none. Ha! Obsessive Compulsive, so I’m told.
  Australia needs more…
  Of my music. And general education on alternative products to using chemicals both as personal care products and house hold cleaning products – Mrs Flannery’s Body Shop, Eco and Earth Choice products.
  What’s your life motto?
  Be the best you can be – be the all-time best.

  After being given a pink ukulele by her mum when she was three years old and 'strumming very hard' Zia, the musician, songwriter and entertainer was presented to the world. Zia first came to our notice as a pocket dynamo with a huge dace hit called "The Underground" which had been remixed by one of Australia's most talented remixers, Sydney's Craig Obey. The single went on to reach number 29 on the all important ARIA Club Chart here in Australia as well as being received overseas. Hailing from the Sunshine Coast Zia is a very talented singer / songwriter that plays a very mean guitar. With her catchy songs, talented bass playing and powerful voice she has a very commanding presence on stage.
  
  When asked about her music style Zia explains that, "As a songwriter first and foremost I write all sorts of different styles and I have a great love of writing music that people can dance to." Her talent as a musician and singer has seen her work with and alongside some of the biggest names in Australian music including The Rogue Traders, Sneaky Sound System, Vandalism, Grace Knight and the legendary Billy Thorpe. When asked about Billy Thorpe, Zia said, "I would have to say he was probably the biggest influence in Australia's rock. He went on to do some amazing work. I don't know whether people know but he actually did a lot of music for the Star Trek TV series as well. I did a couple of gigs supporting him and he said to me that the best thing to do is to tell your audience to fuck off. He was a very cool dude."
  
  Zia's new single available on iTunes is called 'City Of Love' and was written in the beautiful country side of Byron Bay and Mullumbimby. Nature and the country is where Zia gets her best inspiration to write music. 'City Of Love' is about Brisbane and Zia's love of the city that we call home. This release has dance floor written all over it with an infectious beat and hypnotic guitar riff. Combined with Zia's vocal it soon hooks the listener and causes the foot to tap to the beat and after a few listens you easily pick up the words. Craig Obey has once again worked his magic and turned this already great song into a dance floor stomper. To cement home the Brisbane message the cover artwork of the single includes shot of some Brisbane icons including the Wickham Hotel and Brisbane's skyline along with some well known faces from Brisbane's gay and lesbian community.

  Zia Moreau made a flamboyant entry to the world of music when she received her first guitar (a hot p...Zia Moreau made a flamboyant entry to the world of music when she received her first guitar (a hot pink ukulele) at age three. “I strummed that as hard as I could until I was old enough to have some guitar lessons,” Zia remembers.
  
  She developed a passion for music and performance that remained her focus through high school when she took every opportunity to be on stage, from high school musicals to performing in restaurants.
  
  Zia furthered her musical education, completing a four-year honours degree in Contemporary Music majoring in voice, composition and bass guitar. While she has many musical talents, Zia considers herself “a songwriter first and foremost.” She mainly composes dance music, but also enjoys experimenting with stylistic fusions in her work.
  
  Zia lives in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, but regularly gets away from the city at her retreat on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. For four months of each year she devotes her time exclusively to writing songs. The rest of the time she performs, records and produces music in her home studio, or works with other producers and remixes. Recently, she collaborated with Ministry of Sound DJ Craig Obey, who remixed versions of her songs “Underground’ and ‘City of Love.’
  
  In late 2007, two of Obeys remixes of these tracks were top ten finalists of the national Music Oz Awards.” It’s great to have that confirmation before the tracks goes out,” Zia emphasises.
  
  ‘City of Love’ features lyrics inspired by an intense experience Zia had falling for an amazing woman. The music developed over the past few years before she gave Obey the freedom to be creative with it and Zia is very happy with what he produced. “He’s really held the vision of it being a club track with a rock/funk edge,” she explains.
  
  The next item on Zia’s agenda is launching a single of another song,” Lucky Love,” No rest time this year,” she says enthusiastically. “This is the year for full steam ahead.” City of Love music and film clip downloads are available at zia.com.au

  Local artist Zia Moreau is set to release her next single from her self-titled album, Zia. Although she moved back to the Sunshine Coast in May, single City of Love was inspired by Brisbane.
  Zia said her work with US Soul singer Lisa Hunt had given her the boost she needed to fly solo.
  
  “It’s based around the city, my love of the city and all the craziness of the city which can subtle or peak hour traffic, meeting different people and seeing different faces; it’s crazy and strange in the city.”
  
  With the photographs on the wall (in the film clip) where photographs have been inserted from around Brisbane….essentially the song’s about Brisbane.”
  
  No stranger to stage work, Zia has played guitar since high school, and performed in school musicals, but admitted she never aspired to be a singer.
  
  “I was into acting, but that was music theatre so it was a combination. I pretty much went straight into uni. I did a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in contemporary music at Southern Cross University.”
  
  Zia said her work with Lisa Hunt inspired her to risk all and fly solo, releasing her music independently and solely online.
  
  “I worked with Lisa Hunt, a US soul singer and she’s worked with the best in the world…Pavarotti and Macy Gray, Sting, James Brown and I was her bass player for five East Coast tours.
  “I had such a great experience I thought I’d like to release my music, so it was at that point I thought I’d branch away and develop a label and release solo.”
  
  “I was definitely influenced by her in a performance level, and I grew up on Motown soul too. It’s just that expression of performing, and the expression of creating and writing…”
  The single was remixed by Ministry of Sound DJ Craig Obey.
  
  “I’m just sharing my passion for music, and I feel the audience with me. I feel like I’m not performing to an audience, I feel like it’s with them.”
  Zia said she might tour it properly next year, fans should keep a look out because she will be gigging until then under her alias, which she choose not to reveal.

  Zia's energy was electric as she took to this year's Big Gay Day stage. I was amazed to see her tooled up with a bass guitar, not what I was expecting for entertainment on Gay Day's usually Drag and DJ filled entertainment bill. Thus equiped she led us into the track Ritual. Her bass playing is great, strong and melodic, mixing plenty of slaps with very strong flow, really getting the crowd moving. Zia then followed with the two tracks of 'luuurve', City of Lvoe (in which whe was joined on stage by a dancer with flaming orange hair) and Lucky Love. Both of the tracks are energetic dance music, with City of Love remixed by Craig Obey and Lucky Love remixed by Matt Foxon, Ken Sheppard, and one of Brisbane's favourite's, DJ Ish. By this stage the crowd were really jumping, and when Zia announced a tribute to the late Billy Thorpe there were many cheers from the massess. Unleashing her successful single Underground, and joined onstage by two dancers it was enough to get everyone dancing. Zia put on a brilliant show, with a good selection of tracks and planety of groove. If the response from her performance was any indication, her new tracks for 2007 should go off just as strong.
