Biography

Andrew Pfaff is a professional bass player and music educator who brings a wealth of gig experience and musical know-how to the process of creating. He loves and respects AC/DC as much as he loves Stravinsky. Pfaff thinks the Miles Davis Quintets of the 1960's were fabulous, but so were the Meters. Being schooled has not taken away any of his "soul" -- if anything, his education and music literacy is just another tool to let him bring out any sound he hears in his head.

  Andrew has been fortunate enough to share the stage with greats like Oteil Burbridge, Stanley Jordan...Andrew has been fortunate enough to share the stage with greats like Oteil Burbridge, Stanley Jordan, Leo Nocentelli, and Harvie Swartz. He's been on the Today Show and has played Lincoln Center. Keeping active in rock, jazz, "singer-songwriter" and corporate/club date scenes, Andrew keeps a full playing schedule that takes him all over the NYC metro area and occasionally to other parts of the country. Also a teacher, Andrew has written and self-published an instructional book for bass called Mode Shapes for Bass.

  Mode Shapes for Bass is a method of acquiring technical proficiency, aural skill and harmonic knowle...Mode Shapes for Bass is a method of acquiring technical proficiency, aural skill and harmonic knowledge simultaneously -- in other words, a book for your hands, ears and brain. Mode Shapes is geared toward the intermediate student of the 4-, 5-, or 6- string bass guitar who may feel 'stuck' and wants to take his or her playing to the next level.
  
  Each mode is individually and carefully explained in the first section, then expanded through exercises in the second and third sections. This book fills gaps in fretboard knowledge while promoting technique, training the ear, and solidifying harmonic concepts. 'Learning and internalizing the modes in your mind and on your bass will allow you to use a whole palette of colors'. Written in Standard Notation and uses Fretboard diagrams (no TAB). 65 pages.
