Biography
Singer/songwriter Jill Jambor is making her way onto Ontario’s folk music scene, leaving impressions of her “sweet, whispery, new-folk voice” on the ears and in the minds of the listening. Having already opened for acts like Suzie Vinnick and Big Rude Jake, and shared stages with the likes of Dala and The Good Lovelies last year at Barriefolk, Jill has added many things to her credit since. Named one of the winners of this year’s Summerfolk Discoveries competition, Jill made her first appearance at the Summerfolk Festival in Owen Sound this August.
Jill Jambor has recently released a new single, Ten Minute Love Letter, and will be following up with the release of her latest EP, The Bad One, in October 2010. With only a few years of experience, Jill is already being recognized for her “stellar songwriting.” Her “neat” and “fresh” songs combine aspects of traditional folk songs with a range of other contemporary genres and written forms, making them a wonderful blend of folk and other with lyrics that pursue the elusive side of common things.

The intimacy of her live performance best represented her songs -- relating to ‘the folk’ by displaying easy rapport with the audience between songs, with a lyrical and lustrous voice, pure, soft and melodious."

Jill Jambor-2008-Socan
Jambor's eight track CD is another example of raw vocals taking centre stage alongside the guitar. "So Precious" opens the disc with tight harmonies and simple chording. Songs about love's lost and found, shoes on tired feet and the snow's of winter, have found their way onto this compilation.
Jambor produced the disc and plays guitar, tambourine and provides the vocals. She is joined by James McKie on fiddle. Her songs are fresh, deliberate and they make you listen. She opens her heart and soul to the audience with these original pieces.
"When it Snowed" captures the pure vocal talent of Jambor. Its quite possible she is not talking about snow after all but perhaps a relationship that has drifted by the wayside, just as the snow drifts across the open plains in Feruary across a Saskatchewan farmyard.
"May I?" and "I Forgot to Make Things Easy" show the versatility of the artist. It is apparent that Jambor is quite comfortable talking about life's ups and downs and the simple instrumentation allows the vocals to lead the discussion.
"The Reason" will speak to a listening mind. It will tell that mind that anything is possible when you put your mind to it!
She speaks of perseverance, tenacity and a willingness to face adversities head on. This is a unique offering from an emerging singer-songwriter.
[Jill Jambor and Luke Nares] are just two of the eight performers who played at the Knox Acoustic Cafe Youth Showcase. They each brought their own unique style and presentation to the stage with their performances and solidified in our minds that there is a future for the music industry, there will be new singer-songwriters emerging daily and new original material will surface. Look for these young emerging artists at festivals this summer and give them a chance to be heard. After all...even Bob Dylan started out as a young artist! -
