Biography

From the day I picked up a guitar (I was only 6) up to today, performing solo and with bands, music has lead me up and down many many roads. My first attempt at songwriting came at age 9 when I reworked the lyrics to Anne Murray’s hit song ‘Snow Bird’. In high school I played lead guitar in my first band, ‘Alter Ego'. I spent the rest of my teen years taking my singing and guitar playing to the next level. Since then I have played with various bands including; Split Second, UROK2, Foul Play, The Breakers, The Workin' Stiffs, Third Rock, and JC Freeway - winners of the 1982 BC Central Interior Battle of the Bands competition (held in Prince George BC). My current band is 'Littlehead'.

In 2002 I recorded and co-produced my first CD, an 11-original named EDGE OF A DREAM. My favorite tune from that CD is ROCKIN' ON THE REDLINE. It's a sort of 'rock-a-billy' tune that goes out to anyone who holds down 2 (or more) jobs. My second trip to 'album land' came in the 2010 release 'Original Sin', recorded with the band I was with at the time 'Third Rock'. This 'classic rock' album was not a solo effort, yet the final product had me performing 100% of the guitar work, 50% of of the vocals, and 63% of the songwriting credits. Many of the songs you hear on this site are from that album.

  Listening to songs on Henry Locke’s CD, “Edge of a Dream”, I found myself totally absorbed by deepl...Listening to songs on Henry Locke’s CD, “Edge of a Dream”, I found myself totally absorbed by deeply eloquent and moving lyrics and then, came, toe-tapping-dance-in-the-kitchen songs that made me want to go out dancing! Henry has a solid upbeat country/rock/pop-blues style all his own, but somewhat Neil Young/Blue Rodeo-esque. My favorite tracks include, but are not limited to 36th Avenue Blues, Bad Hair Day” and especially “Find the Morning” which featured some wonderful background harmony singing by Narissa Young. The tasteful guitar and chord work, combined with solid songwriting definitely make this CD Radio Airplay and Movie Sound Track material.

The guitar playing is tasty and his rangy singing is energetic and skillful. His songwriting is hooky but not at the expense of originality. His songs are fun (Bad Hair Day, Joe Cool), rockin' (Edge of a Dream, Rockin' on the Redline) and introspective without being a test of attention span (36th Avenue Blues, Bestest Friends.) I am looking forward to his next CD.
