Biography
The members of this Richmond, VA based band hail from all over the US. Combining their diverse background to create a unique sound all their own.
Many people ask us about the origin of our name- A Good Natured Riot. It is from a book written about the beginnings of the Grand Ole Opry. The story goes that how things used to operate was that everyone who wanted to play on the radio lined up outside on the street and it was a first come, first serve basis. Overwhelmed by the number of musicians who wanted air time a stage hand looked out at the melee and told the stage manager that they had to do something to better accomodate all these folks or they'd have a good natured riot on their hands. Thus, the band name was born.
The band has an enormous number of influences, too many to count, as all of the members have slightly different backgrounds. Genre influences include bluegrass, country, jazz, blues, traditional irish, funk, folk, and traditional old-time. If forced to name a few we'd say Gillian Welch, Sam Bush, Tim O'brien, Galactic, MM&W, Ella Fitzgerald, The Duhks, and pretty much everyone we come in contact with that lays down a wee little ditty.....
