Artist Information
Biography
Born Christopher Harris in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, DJ $crilla started out at the age of 15 on a mission to bring his unique style to the rap game, which would enable him to touch the masses. Since he stepped in the game, he has performed all over the country, including being the first rapper to ever perform at the Grand Ole Opry. This versatile artist has an appreciation for various genres of music, which has led him to open up for the likes of Lloyd, Jay Sean, Petey Pablo, JoJo, 8 Ball & MJG, and Kevin Lyttle.
DJ $crilla grew up in a single parent household with three very influential women in his life (his mother, grandmother, and aunt), who all gave him insight to the female perspective. While he strives for excellence, he recognizes the need to reach out and make a difference in this world through his music by producing positive lyrics. $crilla thrives off feedback, so as long as people love his music he will continue to bring captivating energy to every show. He also takes time to give back through his charitable work with Youth AIDS, where he had the opportunity to work with Ashley and Wynonna Judd. He was the host of “Jock Jams”, a benefit for American Cancer Society and has been featured on various radio and television shows. Through his work with youth and his role in the media he has received an Emmy-nomination for Children/Youth Programs and won a Peabody Award. Since 2002, $crilla has written and produced several motivational sorority and fraternity songs for more than 50 Universities. He has produced songs for Louisiana State University, The Ohio State University, University of Michigan, University of Southern California, and University of Florida just to name a few, all while attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Media Production.
Over the course of his life, music greats such as the late Tupac Shakur, Jay Z, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, and Coldplay have all uniquely impacted $crilla and the way he approaches his music. From his first album, “The Chronicle” in 2001, to the highly buzzed about mixtape “Grand Theft Audio”, $crilla began laying the foundation for his musical transformation. With the release of “Fully Focused”, "My Story: Everybody’s Got One” and his latest album, "Me, Myself, And I", he has begun to blaze a trail for the next generation of rap.
In his downtime, you can find him working out or of just relaxing with the latest video games. After music, $crilla’s second love is sports. His hometown Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers are at the top of his team favorites list.
When asked what his goal for his music was, $crilla replied, “I just want to make timeless music.”
