Biography

Our band “The New Planets" formed in late 2004. Ryan and Al, former little league teammates, reconnected later in life at a local Irish Pub named J.P. Mulligans, where Ryan was performing solo. Al, already an experienced bass player and singer, convinced Ryan they should form a band. For a last minute booking, Ryan called in John and Page, a drummer and guitarist that met in high school, and played in a few bands together. “We played some songs by our favorite artists, never having rehearsed before, and there was an immediate comfortable connection felt by all. The show turned out to be a success!” Soon after, the newly formed group was playing at the best local venues in Fort Lauderdale.
“We always knew that the main purpose of our band was to create our own music, so we put our dream into motion and created a compilation of songs titled ‘We R Us’.” The title of the album was derived from a perspective that our music is who we are, it is unique to us, yet it is connected with everyone through this world and the collective conscious. John Lennon stated it beautifully when he wrote. “I am you, as you are me, as you are we and we are all together." We Are Us!
The New Planets, 8 years strong, play their music in South Florida every Month at the Seminole Paradise before Concerts, each week at MURPHY’S LAW at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and at DICEY O’ RILEYS and FAT CAT’S, both in downtown Fort Lauderdale, The Pub in Pembroke Pines, and Coconut Creek Casino, Hollywood Seminole Casino. We have played large festivals like. Loco Fest, Eco Mania festival, Haiti relief, and Breast Cancer awareness festival at the Hard Rock Casino,“We are looking forward to touring with bands in support of our new album, and playing our music to new audiences across the globe. We are also very interested in playing our music in festivals, getting our music played on Local and Satellite Radio, and on Television. We are working on our second album now, so stay tuned. and say hello when you see us out on the town.

  Ryan M. would like you to take a trip with him and get on the train with the new planets as they tak...Ryan M. would like you to take a trip with him and get on the train with the new planets as they take you through a journey into the sub-conscious of your mind!
  His band, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida – based indie-rock quartet, are less then a month away from releasing it’s first full-length debut alum “We Are Us”.
  
  The ever flamboyant, energetic, singer songwriter is looking forward to the journey as he spoke with me earlier this week.
  
  The New Planets is a band that, up to this point, has generated quiet a loyal following, mostly for their energetic live performances in and around the Ft. Lauderdale area. Their evolution began in 2003 at a "local watering hole” where Ryan performed and hosted an open mic night where he would meet his future band mates, David, John, & Al.
  
  For a year or two after that, the band played a number of pubs and clubs under various names. (1st Muse-Cians then da’ Dreams) The time together playing tightened up their sound and saw it was time to their talent to be put to the test. “After a year or so of playing cover songs around town from our favorite bands, we decided that we wanted to start creating our own style of music. That’s when the new planets came to being,” says Ryan.
  
  The 15-month process of writing and recording was a learning experience for the group. “We collaborated together on every song”, says Ryan. “Some ideas came as a group during jam sessions. While others were ideas brought in as individuals. The inspirations for the songs on the album were centered around emotions towards living, interpersonal relations, and the social views of our time in history.”
  
  With the album complete and in the finally stages of being mastered, The New Planets and have now time to reflect on their journey of the pass 15 months on “We Are Us”. “Each song has a special meaning to us”, says Ryan. “We will just have to see what everyone thinks when they hear the album”.
  
  You can expect The New Planets to progress even further as they plan to spread their music through out. Yes, that means a Tour is most likely in the near future. “We are going to utilize the fact that we have our own creation to propel us to the next level”, says Ryan.

  We 'R' Us is a lot better album than its self-serving title might imply... so much better, in fact, that it could be one of the best local rock albums released in recent memory. Chock-full of effusive grooves, resilient melodies, and supple hooks, it finds the New Planets in a unique orbit, spinning rings around their local competition while making a case for national recognition. Drawing comparisons to Fountains of Wayne, Rilo Kiley, and Death Cab for Cutie, the New Planets make an immediate first impression that only deepens with each succeeding listen. A power-pop band at its core, the group has integrated elements of roots, retro, and Brit rock into these 16 songs. Over the course of a solid hour, the disc zig-zags between the spiraling rhythms of "Washing Machine" and "Coming Too" and the all-out exuberance of "I Need Some Space," "Get Into You," and "Philosophy," occasionally detouring into the darker descent of "Memo's," the dreamy desire of "They're Robbing Us," the swampy tangle of "Overdose on Me," and the down-home twang of "I Want Cuba!" Still, it's the subtle touches that come to the fore — the punctuating rhythms, the cooing harmonies, and songs so skillfully constructed that they belie the band's rookie stature. "We've got nothing to lose and everything to gain," they proclaim on opening track "Train of Thoughts," and on We 'R' Us, those gains are already evident.

Late night at Murphy's Law, I actually bumped into his band. We hung out until 4 a.m. and they were as cool as could be.
  
  While I was trying to convince Chuck Burgi, Joel's drummer, to let me sing backup in the band, The New Planets was brilliantly covering Sympathy for the Devil on the stage at Murphy's Law. Setlist

We play all 16 of our songs live. An all original set usually consists of 8 original songs. But we are more than capable of doing a 90 minute set also.
Our shows range from 30 minutes to 3hrs
When we perform longer shows we add in cover songs from bands like: U2, The Beatles, The Doors, Led Zep., The Chillipeppers, Radiohead, 311, Sublime, Bob Marley, Tom Petty, AudioSlave, STP and many more...
