The Starters were founded in 2007 by Young Live in an effort to create a fresh and unique party experience in the city of Chicago and beyond.

As a Producer/DJ, he has gathered all his production credits and sponsorships under both his name Young Live and the moniker Starters Dj's, using them to forge an upstanding production/dj career. His production talents have landed him remixes for George Clinton, Drake, Kid Sister, Cool Kids, Wiz Khalifa, and more as well as spots on both national and global shows and festivals. Recently coming off of a U.S. mini tour, he has built lots of connections with major artists and played high end shows while broadening his fan base nationally. With many upcoming releases and continuous booking, Young Live is going to blow up fast. He is due to release a single "Bandit" exclusively on Beatport w/ a remix from Tomb Crew (Trouble & Bass) as well as label mates. A full lenth, "Welcome to the Raveyard 2", will be on Ill Pill Records Oct 2010 and will be available on Beatport, Itunes, LaLa and Amazon.

YOUNG LIVE
Jeremy Davis, better known as Young Live of the Starters DJ's and Basix has had a vast journey through music. Starting as a producer at the age of 14, by 16 he was having instrumentals circulating for purchase among local talent and scouts. By 2002 he went solo to put out two mixtapes (Real Time, 4.T.5.), one of which had mention at the Justo Mixtape Awards. Enrolling in Columbia College in 2004 he linked up with Don P. to form the group Tha Basix. They have performed with artists such as Rhymefest and have held residencies with venues around Chicago such as Funky Buddha Lounge. Within the next few years, Young Live formed the Starters Dj's, who were known for remix production and mash ups. The Starters were founded in 2007 by Young Live in an effort to create a fresh and unique party experience in the city of Chicago and beyond. Powered by his production, he has been able to formulate a roster of dj's and producers that spotlights their talents. They have held residencies at Abbey Pub, Funky Buddha Lounge, and Sonotheque as well as being regulars at such hot spots as Debonair and La Passage. They have also had the opportunity to perform at some of the more larger venues in Chicago, performing with such acts as Diplo, Shawty Lo, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, N.A.S.A., Cool Kids, DJ Sega and Mickey Factz.
Young Live's production has made an impact in new wave music that is spanning nationally as well as globally with various singles that have been rated #1's online and reviewed by the likes of NY Magazine and more. He has been able to lend his talents to make remixes for such artists as Drake, George Clinton, Kid Sister, Hey Champ and Chester French. Their layering of diverse genres of dance music with samples and live elements guarantee a truly unique experience every time.

  Chicago has been slow to come around to dubstep, and I figure this is at least partly because dancehall hasn't ever really taken off here either—if it had, local clubgoers wouldn't still have such a hard time accepting beats they can't juke to. A few DJs and producers are changing local attitudes toward dubstep both with their persistence—soldiering through midevening sets for crowds who obviously aren't into its skittering, wobbling rhythms—and with their efforts to develop a more Chicago-friendly hybrid, inflected with house and hip-hop.
  
  Young Live of the Starters DJs is close to nailing that blend. The drums on his original "Cobra (Extended Crunkstep Mix)" wouldn't freak out B96 listeners, who might even dig his rave-inflected take on dubstep's trademark wubba-wubba bass lines (or, if nothing else, the kitchsy samples from G.I. Joe cartoons). His remix of Soulja Boy's "Pretty Boy Swag" slyly juxtaposes the MC's aggressive vapidness with the menacing atmosphere that dubstep's hard-core fans get off on. But maybe his most impressive work so far is a remix of Sky Ferreira's cover of Miike Snow's "Animal." The teen pop starlet gave Snow's nervy, snaggy electro-pop tune a Fiona Apple-style piano-and-voice treatment. Young Live's version fits it with a chattering, incongruous dubstep beat—but Ferreira's clear vocal melody and the tune's bright, almost optimistic background chords part the curtains and let a little light into what's normally a shadowy genre. All three tracks (and many more) are up on his Soundcloud page, and he's self-releasing "Cobra" via Beatport this week.

  Chicago’s Starters DJs have been all over the place lately. They first ended up on the radar for a l...Chicago’s Starters DJs have been all over the place lately. They first ended up on the radar for a lot of folks when they showed up on URB’s Cool By Association Next 100 mixtape. Fusing Electro and Hip-Hop, these DJs are showing Chicago what real djs do, as they rock on four turntables with DJ Trentino catching cuts over Mop Top’s blazing beats, as well as trading rhythms back and forth. It’s always refreshing to see electronic/electro breaks DJs that can actually cut it up and display a full array of DJ skills.
  
  Starters DJs also happen to be official Chicago Riders. They’ve gladly given Frank151 the exclusive pre-release of their new Mix Don’t Be Scared. The mix features production by Starters DJ Young Live, and was mixed by Mop Top and Trentino. We know this thing will be all over the place soon, but for now we’ve got Starters DJs, and we’re happy to have them first!

  Once again, the Chi is bringing out the illest of DJ stylings, this time thanks to the up-and-coming Starters, who are playing all over the city, including a show Sunday at Club Fiesta (3407 N. Clark). The guys create party jams along the lines of other local luminaries the Hood Internet and Flosstradamus, and have recently dropped a mix tape for URB — check their MySpace for more info. This Coldplay versus Nas mash is killer and brings to mind an iTunes commercial meeting with the grimy verses by the legend from Queensbridge, as well as a sample from Pittsburgh emcee Wiz Khalifa’s “Say Yeah.” The stream below is from Hot Biscuits.   LoW: You've got quite a collection of features on the project, especially folks like G.O.O.D Music's Really Doe, and UG sensation Mickey Factz. How was it working with these artists on the album?
  
  VP: Ive been working with Really Doe on some things behind the scenes for the last couple months. I did a couple joints for his mix tape and maybe a few for his album I think 1 or 2 will make the final cut for the album. As for Mickey Factz, Im actually out in NY right now trying to get the collaboration with Mickey Factz done. I have been seeing him in a bunch of publications most recently URB and SPIN so I hit him up and was like jump on the project and he was down.
  
  LoW: What prompted you guys and Vince P to hook up/decide to work together on CBA Starters?
  
  ST: Vince approached us interested in our music style. We worked together on a few shows together, then he approached us with the idea for a URB Mixtape and we jumped on board.
  
  LoW: The Starters make a very catchy blend of Electro and Hip-Hop, so can people expect that same on this project?
  
  ST: Yea, We are going to try and add our own unique touch to all the songs mixed on the CBA mixtape.
  
  LoW: Besides Cool, what else are you/have you guys been working on?
  
  ST: We have been working on our first release, S.O.T.D. (Sex On The Dance Floor) which will be a collection of Starters Remixes and Mash-ups (available mid summer). We have also been working on building and maintaining good relationships through Chicago. This summer will be spinning at various clubs as well as a Thursday night residency at the brand new 3 level venue, Skybar, in Lincoln park.
  
  VP: - On my end Im just trying get my buzz up in streets and on the scene in Chicago. I have worked with a bunch of big names in the music industry, but I need to go from being the person who is working with all the big name artist to the "big name artist." It's a tough transition, but it has to happen at some point and this year it is happening.
  
  LoW: How does it feel to be praised as one of URB Magazines top Next 100?
  
  VP: It gives me sense of acomplisment that now Im being recognized as an artist instead of a producer and that my transiton into an artist is happening and people are noticing. I also was very honored by the acknoledgment. I also have a publicist by the name of Orlando Vega who works very hard for me and he and I were glad to see his efforts were paying off too.
  
  
  LoW: What has the road been like so far for you musically? What Key events motivated you/Made you want to fold?
  
  VP: The key events that motivated me was being around in New York when the Dip Set really started breaking nationaly. I started off really getting with music when I was in college in New York and the Dip Set was just starting to buzz in New York. I did a bit of producing and was like let me see if I can get up with these dudes because I really mimiced in my production style the Heat Makerz, Just Blaze and at that time Kanye West so I knew I would fit in.
  
  I was working with and A&R at Def Jam at the time and ended up getting linked up with Juelz's people and it took off from there. ( This is before the whole movement blew up) I always rapped and after being in the studio for a couple years with people who do it for real I was like damn let learn from them get my flow a little tighter and do this my self.
  It gives me sense of acomplisment that now Im being recognized as an artist instead of a producer and that my transiton into an artist is happening and people are noticing.
  
  I tried to push through a situation last year where I would be signing with Juelz's new label Skull Gang as an artist, but it didnt work out. I'm a little to much from the suburbs to really fit in with the crew and to liberal with the songs I like to write and record. So right now I am more of a Skull Gang afilliate they hit me up and let me know whats going on and I always try to get up with some of the guys that are signed to the label when Im in NY. Shout out to Riq !
  
  LoW: We rarely ask this to anyone, but why do you make music?
  
  ST: We make music that we like to hear. Sampling all different genres of music. We make music for people have a good time and dance to. We try and make music that expresses our generation and ourselves.
  
  Vince - I like to make music because it's fun and I can just be me in an artistic and inovative form.
  
  LoW: What do you/URB hope to achieve with the release of this project?
  
  ST/VP: We hope to promote new artist that people may not have heard. To bring the fresh, new music to the public and to expose it to people that might not have normally even taken the chance of listening to it.
  
  LoW: What do you think is holding back the Underground scene from taking off/going at full steam?
  
  ST/VP: We think that main thing that is holding this type of music in the underground is the fact that it is new. It’s not music that people are used to hearing.
  
  We think people are able to hear it now in a fashion that is more acceptable.
  
  With ourselves mixing genres, people are more willing to listen and give it a chance. You can find bits and pieces of the music making its way into the mainstream scene. It’s only a matter of time before we finally break out.
  
  
  
  LoW: What is the status/schedule for your label, Space Pirate Records? When can we look forward to seeing some projects?
  
  VP: The status right now we have digital distribution through all the major outlets like iTunes, Napster, Amazon, etc. I have had some initial talks with a couple labels about physical distribution. In my opinion there is no purpose for that until we get the fan base up. So I think we are a good year to year and half away from having physical distribution through a label.
  
  The schedule thus far is for a follow up to "Cool By Association " which will be another mix tape that we will be partnering up this with a well know national clothing line to release the project. We will have more details on that project once we confirm the company.
  
  After that project is released and the marketing and promotion for that project has run its course you can look for a release from either myself or the Starters which will be a project exclusivly released through Space Pirates Records.
