Jim Stringer

Though his repertoire is a combination of original and covers, all Stringer's music brings to mind the mix that dominated during the reign of AM Radio from the 50's through the late 60's. Vintage country, rockabilly, western swing and rock and roll.

Artist Information

Biography

With a history of almost fifty years as a performing musician, since 1994, Jim Stringer has been living, working and, as always, honing his craft as guitarist, producer, and singer-songwriter, in the competitive but nurturing environment of Austin, Texas. During that time, his guitar has been heard with dozens of Austin artists, live or on record, including Ted Roddy, Wayne Hancock, Roger Wallace, Marti Brom, Susanna Van Tassel, Karen Poston and many others. His own AM Band has toured widely, twice as a featured act at Twangfest, and at festivals in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden and Norway.

A busy producer for Austin artists, Jim produced the now legendary "Travis County Pickin'" for HighTone. TCP has become a standard in the libraries of guitar enthusiasts.

In 2007, he and his late 60's band, Tide, were inducted into the Kansas/Greater Kansas City Music Hall of Fame alongside such music giants as Big Joe Turner, Big Al Downing, and Marilyn Maye.

Stringer has been featured in articles in No Depression, The Austin Chronicle, Third Coast Music, Country Standard Time, The Kansas City Star, and many other domestic and international publications. Most recently, his CD, "Triskaidekaphilia" was spotlighted in the November 2008 issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine. This CD was also voted #1 by the widely respected FAR Chart reporters.

The AM Band has an immense repertoire of nearly 500 songs and can handle any sort of performance from showcase sets, club appearances, and festival shows to private parties, weddings, and other "casuals".
