Biography

Rock music with a bit of a roll.. yes, The Volunteers are served straight up in the single malt blend that is New York City. The Volunteers have toured North America, while gaining homegrown critical acclaim (High Times, The Onion, The Deli, New York Waste, Jersey Beat) along with a burgeoning fan base.

Their recent album "Spectrophilia", was recorded at Monsterland Studio in Brooklyn with Producer/Engineer Paul Mahajan (Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Tv on the Radio, The National) and featuring contributions from Stuart Bogie (Antibalas) and Clint Steele (The Swans).

The Volunteers live show is one of the best you'll find for an unsigned band in NYC. Blending articulate musicianship with wild energy, great songs and powerful delivery, fans who come to their shows always have a blast.

Volunteers have been selected as the first ever HIGH TIMES BAND OF THE MONTH, appearing in the July 2009 issue.

"Vampire Joe" was featured on MTV's Real World: Brooklyn on 3/4/2009!

"Stubborn Woman" was featured on Oxygen Network's Bad Girls Club on 2/24/2009!

"Get on the Bomb" was recently spun on 87.9FM WBMB Radio in New York City.

"Fuck my Ghost" was recently spun on blogtalkradio.com, Dr. Blogsteins Radio Happy Hour.

"Gimme Some Money" has been played on Little Steven's Underground Garage show on Sirius Satellite Radio.

  Okay, so I had a typically rough, grueling and exhausting day at work. Friday night, infact. Friday’...Okay, so I had a typically rough, grueling and exhausting day at work. Friday night, infact. Friday’s are just brutal. So, after a hard day’s work I decide to give this
  particular CD a whirl and get lost in the music. Well, a few seconds
  into the groovy opening song “Rock and Roll (Will Kill You,)” I flat-out forgot all about work. The
  crunchy guitars, neatly chugging basslines, and smooth steamrolling
  drums swept me away
  with their crisp and constant sonic aplomb. The raspy vocals and sharp, profane lyrics likewise won me over. I also totally got taken by the cool-diggin’ grooves of such choice tasty tracks as “Get on the Bomb,” “Monsta,” the supremely funky “Feel It,” and “Rock to
  Rock.” This is the type of straight-up meat and potatoes rock music
  that just gets right down to gnarly brass tacks and does the trick in a pleasingly dynamic and unpretentious way. - Joe Wawrzyniak
