Biography
The album «Um Copo de Sol» was a tipping point on Pedro Moutinho’s busy career. He has received the prestigious Amalia Prize in 2008 and became recognized in the fado scene.
On this album, Pedro is surrounded by some of the great Portuguese poets – Pedro Tamen, Aldina Duarte, Manuela de Freitas – and sings melodies imagined by Rodrigo Leão, Tiago Bettencourt and Amélia Muge, some of the best composers in Portugal, showing that his voice shines brighter with these collaborations. Before that jump in his career, Pedro steps were being watched already. So he was invited to perform in the movie “Fados”, by the acclaimed director Carlos Saura and dedicated to the Portuguese music. Pedro debuted in 2003 with «Primeiro Fado» and immediately the applause came. After followed«Encontro», an album where his voice defied Fernando Pessoa and António Lobo Antunes, amongst other poets.
Now it is the perfect time to look back the road already travelled and anticipate the future by releasing a compilation – “Lisboa Mora aqui, o melhor de Pedro Moutinho” (Translated: “Lisboa lives here, the Best of Pedro Moutinho”) – that collects his best moments and adds a few unheard songs allowing us to take a glimpse at what will come. The new Pedro Moutinho’s show is a travel along his fados, through the deepest corners of his soul and the best moments of the three albums, cornerstones of his status on the Portuguese music scene and on the fado scene in particular. On this compilation, one will find the songs Pedro claimed as his own, like «Lisboa Mora Aqui», «Copo de Sol» and “Colchetes d’Oiro” and above all, one will find a singular perspective of a voice that has not yet stopped growing, both in intelligence and in experience. This is the best of Pedro Moutinho on stage and that is part of the best actual Fado.
On stage, Pedro is fado: the voice, the eyes, pose and gestures. Pedro embodies the songs and understands the subtleties of his chosen style: he flies above the Portuguese guitars, goes around the classical guitar and brings melodies with such a safe voice that it seems like he has been singing since ever. Indeed Pedro has started singing when he was 11 years old and became a regular at Fado houses that have been witnessing the truth, shown by the lack of distance between the singer and his listener.
