Biography
The first words out of Jessica Elbert’s mouth weren’t spoken; they were sung. By the age of 9, Jessica was a featured singer in her church and school choirs, which led her to formal classical operatic training by age 14 with Joan Kaplon. Jessica has since studied with Lisa Campbell Albert, German Jazz artist Judy Niemack, Ellen Shade and Phil Hall. As a student at Washington University in St. Louis, Jessica won the award for “Best Soloist” by the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA), and appeared on the prestigious Best of College A Cappella produced by Varsity Vocals.
In 2002 Jessica moved to New York City to pursue a career as a singer. She developed a serious passion for Jazz and soon after began to hone her considerable talent under the tutelage of Peter Eldridge and Jay Clayton. Jessica began performing in 2005, at venues such as The Triad Theatre, Rockwood Music Hall, Mannahatta, and a weekly gig at 169 Bar. In 2006 Jessica was asked to sing the National Anthem by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America for their annual Gridiron Games, and is now going on her third year of singing for this event at Giants Stadium.
In 2006 Jessica’s momentum and increasing love for Jazz led her to record her debut album, “Anlage”. The blend of popular standards and Brazilian classics has made Jessica a regularly requested performer all across the United States. Jessica’s ambition is to return vocal Jazz to the forefront of popular culture through her recorded and performance work.
