Drenched in distorted guitars and high harmonies, Bowery Boy Blue's brand of electric Americana should appeal to fans of Neil Young/Crazy Horse, Magnolia Elec. Co, and Wilco, among others.

Biography

New York City’s Bowery Boy Blue is Americana reincarnated, and they have proven it with their debut full-length, Stalk That Myth, released on Space Photo Records July 29th, 2008. Originally comprised solely of singer/ guitarist Zeb Gould (Stereofan, The Decanters, Three On The Tree), this indie-folk quartet solidified with bassist Michael Trepagnier (Cheyenne), drummer Christian Rutledge (Sandusky), and multi-instrumentalist Sam Crawford (The Decanters, Three on The Tree). The quartet met working in a variety of engineering capacities at Philip Glass' Looking Glass Studios in Manhattan. Within months, playing around the New York music scene, Bowery Boy Blue has garnered the appreciation of such established acts as the Magnolia Electric Co. and Edith Frost.

Bowery Boy Blue draws from influences like Neil Young, Daniel Johnston, and The Pixies. But they don’t just find influences in music. Stalk That Myth is actually based on Jean-Paul Sartre’s Les Mouches. Backing up these beautifully translated stories is an exceptionally strong cast of guest artists. Violinist Megan Gould (née Weeder; of Stereofan and the Japonize Elephants) is featured most prominently, arranging and playing three of the four pieces in the string quartet that acts as a vocal counterpoint throughout much of the record. Drummer Jason Toth (Manishevitz, Edith Frost) emits a Pixies-like pulse on “They Sleep Standing Like Cranes”, and propels the record throughout. Another former member of Three on The Tree, Zeb’s father and fan favorite Geoff Gould, makes an appearance on dobro and banjo. Zeb plays all the guitars on the record himself, with the grace of his finger picked solo releases, and also brings a new stabbing, electric energy to the songs as well.
