Biography

Seeking Surreal infuses a wide range of musical style and structure for their overall sound with their stated goal of bringing together people from all genres of music. Comparisons toward their music would be a Thrice, Fightstar, Incubus, Poison The Well, Radiohead incarnation.

SS has been a band and touring around the Mid-West since 2006. Throughout this time they have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many amazing bands including The Cult, Stone Sour, Drowning Pool, Black Light Burns, Opus Dai, Dirty Little Rabbits, The Feds, and others. This talented group of musicians has seen their music featured on MTV network television, Time Warner Cable ON-Demand, national radio programming, and has their music available worldwide with Best Buy Co. and I-tunes.

They have released 2 records: The Gilded Age and Capgras Syndrome. Presently the band is working on an ep release with Producer Josh Barber (Josephine Collective, The American Life) with mixing being done by Zach Odom and Kenneth Mount (Cartel, Mayday Parade, Every Avenue) at Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.

  These guys are composers in every sense of the word. Their music is complex, moody, and melodic. The lyrics are vivid and poetic. I’m guessing this band did well in English Lit class.
  
  Take the open track, “Mouth.” After a short musical intro of growing, rising distortion, letting us know that something dangerous is coming, we get these lyrics over writhing, aggressive rock:
  
  "Extend through the embers
  A conscious fire of vermilion glow takes shape
  Still breathing for all is lost
  A well we open with a sigh and meeting dark ..."
  
  I could easily go on, because once you start reading these lyrics, it really is hard to stop. This CD is like a poetry slam that kicks ass. And vocalist Nathan Williams is the right voice to deliver it, although sometimes his voice does get lost a little in the crunch of guitars. When you get a guy who can sound yearning one minute and then really scream the next, make sure you keep him out in front.
  The title track is definitely a standout. I like the intro, with its crashing sonic waves
  between static-sounding guitar intervals.
  
  But my favorite moment on the CD is the dreamy, hypnotic spell cast by the back-to-back songs called “Allegory” and “Sleep Easy.” Sweet melodies, painfully sad and angry lyrics. These tracks alone are a perfect example of how wonderfully complex Seeking Surreal can be.

Setlist

30-40 min sets are the norm for us but we have been known to entertain a 3 hour set. The show is continuous and to the point. We definitely try to make use of our time up on stage and acoustic shows are part of our repertoire as well.
