Biography
"People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all,” the great front man Jim Morrison brooded, "Feelings are disturbing.” Although ever so poetically stated all that time ago, it holds true today more than ever. Broken Crown’s latest offering, The Great Paranoid, evokes exactly that, with conceptualized songs that drive the listeners to challenge their own fear, of things both known and unknown. The Omaha based hard rock band, comprised of Ryan Matcha (drums), Jeffrey Dennis (bass), Nick Aldieri (lead guitar/vocals), Kyle Buffinton (guitar/vocals), and Nathan Foutch (lead vocals) site their influences as Pink Floyd, Tool, Led Zeppelin, and Alice in Chains. There’s no doubt similar morose themes explored by their influences, are present in Broken Crown’s songs.
The band’s first release, an EP entitled Element6, was released in 2009, and served as a milestone for the band in many ways. The song “Aftermath” is a crowd pleaser and has received regional rotation on several radio stations, while songs like Burning Angel” truly illustrated the bands talent for arrangement and songwriting. The album garnered high praise from critics, and showcased the band’s growth since their formation in 2007. Broken Crown have since received rotation in many regional and online radio stations, appeared in music magazines and periodicals, built up a loyal following across the Midwest, and WON the 2011 Omaha Entertainment Award for Best in Hard Rock.
In November of 2011, the band released their first full length album, The Great Paranoid. This aforementioned release brims at all points with boundless instrumental flourish. From the blistering guitar work and unrelenting drums of “Hold the Fire”, to the crushing downswings of “Whiskey Friend”, Broken Crown achieves a markedly BIG, layered sound that reminds listeners of the rock bands of yesteryear, yet at the same time achieves something entirely new. Broken Crown hopes that The Great Paranoid can be a stepping stone to even greater things, but one thing is certain…this band knows no fear.
