Paprika

Paprika is Brooklyn's own world beat dance and jam band performing dance music from around the world. The group came into being in the summer of the year 2000 in a Brooklyn backyard, founded by members of NYC's Brazilian based musical phenomena such as Tigresa, Xodo, and Beat the Donkey. With a distinctively world beat sound, Paprika vibrates with the passion its members have for the music of Brazil, Cuba, the Middle East, Indonesia, the Mediterrean and Africa to name a few.

Paprika performs as a full 6 piece stage band with electric guitar, bass, sax, percussion, drumset and features five vocalists singing in nine languages. The group also performs batucada (Brazil's Carnaval Samba drums), raising the roof leading many a marching throng from Halloween parades, First Night, & Pride Festivals, to the famous Coney Island Mermaid Parade. The members of Paprika also lead pre-parade & educational workshops in traditional percussion, world singing and improvised music.

Paprika has performed at numerous music festivals and colleges such as Rutgers, Bryn Mawr, Hostos Community College, Westchester University, New London College, New York City Tech and Post University. They brought down the house at the National Women's Music Festival in Madison, WI in June '08, and in previous years have played at the Starwood Festival, Michigan Women's Festival, Campout Virginia, Cabin Fest, Brooklyn's Chili Pepper and Cherry Blossom Festivals, Atlantic Antic and numerous Earth Day Celebrations. They have also performed at some of NYC's finest music venues including Joe's Pub, SOB's, The Bowery Poetry Club, CBGB's, Galapagos, Superfine, Southpaw and Brooklyn Arts Exchange.
