Biography

"Daniel's new CD (HE DREAMS) is very fine – great work. The songs are all very strong. Daniel's guitar playing is exquisite and his vocals are particularly good."
-- Steve Gillette

"A creative, entertaining singer-songwriter who can stand up to the best in the business. His songs have clever, insightful lyrics and lovely melodies... His live show is entertaining from beginning to end, with songs ranging from serious to totally hilarious. I recommend him highly!"
-- Linda Bolton / Booking Agent for David Mallett

"'He Dreams' is one of those rare CDs that will remain on the top of our stack for years to come. Many things converge to make this CD a success-- wonderful songs about things that really matter, finely crafted guitar arrangements that keep the texture ever changing, and Daniel's voice which carries great emotion and beauty. It's refreshing to find a singer-songwriter recording that does not resort to drums and bass to carry the load. This is a great CD."
-- Kelly & Donna / Still on the Hill

*****

Daniel Boling is a folksinger/songwriter with a storyteller's eye for detail. His songs are inhabited by interesting characters drawn from Daniel's life, family and friends: the vagabond running off with a tiny circus to tour the West; an aging Viet Nam veteran looking back with surprise at his departed youth; a young rancher inheriting his grandfather's now worn out rangeland and hoping he can hold on and live up to the family legacy; a passenger on Flight 93 calling his wife to say goodbye. His finger-picked guitar and banjitar support a good, clear tenor voice that evokes his characters' emotions perfectly.

Daniel’s 4th CD, He Dreams, was released in 2009 and features 13 new original songs recorded with a sparse, almost live feel and includes cameo appearances by several great friends: Jack Williams, Meredith Wilder, Jimmy Abraham, Jim Schwar, and Suzanne Shelton. Daniel’s newest CD project, “LIVE! from the Winter Folk Festival 2009” also came out in 2009 and showcases his live MainStage set at this outstanding festival. His 3rd CD, The Old International, was released in 2003 and features a supporting cast of dear friends from the road including Bill Ward, T.R. Ritchie, Still on the Hill, Dave Nachmanoff, Susan Clark, Orrin Star and a few more. His previous releases are Welcome Home in 2000 and Perfectly Stable in 1999.

Raising a great family, and a career with the National Park Service and US Bureau of Land Management, took a good deal of his attention over the years and Daniel fit his music in around the edges, but since February, 2008 he’s been performing and touring full-time. Daniel loves any venue where family friendly music is appreciated and folks want to listen. Please get in touch for bookings, recordings, further information, or just to visit. Thank you for supporting original acoustic music!

Typically Daniel performs all original music, occasionally covering a song by a fellow songwriter friend, acquaintance or influence when it's the right song for the moment.

A typical show in a "listening room" consists of two 45-50 minute sets, and features songs from all five of Daniel's CDs as well as new songs written since the last CD release which are getting their "trial by fire" to see if they'll make the cut for the next album.
