SIRSY (pronounced "sir - see"):
SIRSY, the FIERY, SULTRY, SOULFUL, INDIE POP ROCK DUO is a musical breath of fresh air in a world of homogenized & overly super-sized corporate rock. Born to Rich Libutti, a lover of The Beatles, Bowie, and Star Wars, who rocks the guitar, and Melanie Krahmer, who must be the love child of Eartha Kitt and Superman, SIRSY is a force much greater than most found on earth. Their clever, hook drenched songs are infectious and lyrically run the gamut from wildly joyful to utterly heartbreaking. The title track from their newest CD, Revolution, is not only one in a collection of great songs, but was also the opening track for the highly acclaimed ‘green film', “So Right So Smart” starring Darryl Hanna, Bare Naked Ladies, and Guster among others.
Able to leap tall buildings, rock a club for up to 3 hours, and fully capable of handling zero gravity for hours at a time, Melanie Krahmer, has been described as a girl with a "stunning, inimitable, voice capable of a lion's roar and a floaty whisper, with lungs of a teenage athlete". She plays a full drum kit while standing up, handles bass (played on a keyboard with her drumstick) and throws in flute solos and melodica as well. Rich Libutti plays everything else, including bass (on a keyboard at his feet) and is the anchor to Melanie's on stage tornado. Playing over 200 shows a year, they've shared stages with the likes of Maroon5, Lifehouse, Collective Soul, Third Eye Blind, Train, Blues Traveler, Cheap Trick, Vertical Horizon, Fuel, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Boys Like Girls, & more.
Now signed to Funzalo Records, they've re-released Revolution, after a re-mix by knob-twisting genius, Paul Kolderie (Hole, Radiohead, Dresden Dolls, Pixies, Martin Sexton). SIRSY's song "Revolution" was featured in the Relix Magazine CD (alongside Joan Osborne, Lucinda Williams, & more) and the music video is in rotation on HBO Zone. SIRSY recently finished a studio project with famed producer, David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Kelly Clarkson) who called Melanie’s “a world class voice.” Melanie is also endorsed nationally by Vater Percussion and has been featured in Modern Drummer Magazine.

—Annette Warner GoGirlsMusic,com, (June 2005)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

— Mark Hogan, Vice President of Marketing for Trans World Entertainment / Albany, NY (Dec 2002)

—Dave Windsheimer, Recorder, Albany/Upstate, NY (April 2005)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Errr, wow. I mean, WOW! While their music is radio friendly, and their looks are eye-friendly, the material is actually REALLY good. Like pop songs used to be before MTV. They have a sizeable fanbase as evidenced by the sell out at the Tribeca show... go see them!
— Pete Harris, womanrock.com/Indie Sounds NY/Harris Radio, NYC (Oct 2004)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sirsy, an Albany based pop band has taken the Northeast by storm! Their marketing skills as amazing as they are, however, are toppled in comparison by the amount of heart, soul, and passion they have pouring through their music. At this year's Bamboozle Festival, make sirsy a band on your must-see list!"
—Peter Kakouriotis, Aquarian, NJ & NYC (April 2005)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The amazing sirsy. You can tell anyone you want, I'm a big SIRSY fan."
—Patti Rothberg, EMI Recording Artist/ NYC (Aug 2003)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"This ain’t your run-of-the-mill indie band folks. Sirsy offers up a veritable soup of ardent originality. Krahmer casts her lyrical and vocal spell with a voice that is a standout among wannabes in today’s radio drivel. Bursting and belting out emotion and substance, she can be the queen of ‘in the groove’ rocking or be simple and delicate. The band doesn’t struggle to keep up with Krahmer’s vocal talent, they shine in comparison to the stock inventory of what is commercially available. Originality starts from the top down and with Sirsy it doesn’t stop at the depth and insight of the music and lyrics. On all of Sirsy’s releases the performance is stellar...bringing the listener back to emotions that one might not want to revisit, but the beauty of Melanie’s voice and the invitation of the music whisper, "it’s okay." Emotional, original, rock with a singer who gives major label releases a run for their money. From a solidly smart standout first release to the soon to be released Ruby, the sounds of Sirsy keep getting better. Take notice, this is one indie band with the clout, talent and know-how to make great records and groove its way to musician nirvana."
— J. Schaefer, Aftertaste Magazine/ Webzine (May 2004)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sirsy reminds me why I love music."
—Arthur Gonick, WSPN 91.1FM / Saratoga & Upstate, NY (2004)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"On Ruby, they're tighter and more focused than ever. It's no surprise that Ruby debuted in the
Top 10. Vicious guitar work frames the super-sexy vocals of lead gal Melanie Krahmer. She's
Sirsy's trump card, and her performance here is stunning. Krahmer has the lungs of a teenage athlete and the growl of a sixty-something blues singer. Not a bad combo. The players are also skilled, and one of their talents is restraint. No spotlight-stealing solos or layers of effects here. It's especially interesting to hear how the band colors the songs with tiny details while leaving them wide open for the vocals. Nice job."
—Ethan Covey, Music Editor, Seven Days Newspaper / Burlington, VT (June 2004)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...gorgeous...great pop songs...classy and quirky enough to capture the ears of college radio listeners all over the continent... catchy without being hackneyed. It’s rare that I get the opportunity to hear superior slow songs that don’t sound artificial and simulated. Sirsy is a substantial, air-tight assemblage of some of the finest funk-based, urban pop I’ve had the pleasure to experience."
—Pete Knapp, President, Shut Eye Records / Atlanta, GA (June 2001)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I liked the Sirsy stuff. From what I heard, they definitely have the talent to go all the way."
— Rob Hotchkiss (guitarist) of the band TRAIN (Nov 2002)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SIRSY'S (Live Version) of "WISHLESS" NAMED BEST SONG OF 2002!
"If there was a 'Most Likely to Succeed' award, this band would win it hands down. Melanie Krahmer's vocals are searing and sultry, the band tight and complementary. Radio friendly, video friendly, and so, so pleasing on the ears. Go Sirsy!"
—Andy Gallo, Crumbs Radio / Web Radio (Jan 2003)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sirsy is one of the most professional bands in the business. Four very talented musicians who have written a catalog of great material and deliver a live performance that’s both fun and energetic, and is able to appeal to the masses like no other band I know."
—Dan Goodspeed, Rkstar.com / Indie Band Web Site (July 2002)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sirsy has an uncanny knack for handling well-worn song themes in an original way. These diversified players and their gifted female vocalist incorporate a wide array of influences without ever sounding derivative."
—Audiogalaxy.com / Indie Band Web Site (2000)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...a unique sound, talented musicians a lot of energy... more apt to fill an arena rather than a bar. There is no telling how many shows Sirsy has left in the Crystal City. Not because they'll quit their marathon touring, but because they'll be at the Beacon Theater in New York City instead.”
—Jon Methven, The Leader / Corning, NY (Aug 2002)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hands down... One of the best live acts you will ever see!"
—Jeff Maynard, Ri Ra Music Club / Charlotte, NC (2004)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...moody, passionate songs filled with hooks and tasty musicianship. You need to hear sirsy to be able to say you knew them when!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...hook-laden punch... a band coming into its own...play off each other effortlessly... vocalist Melanie Krahmer- the main attraction in the band, has a voice capable of both a lion's roar and a floaty whisper. The instrumentalists wisely leave plenty of aural space to be filled with Krahmer's soulful moan. The songs...manage to sound familiar and radio-friendly...shimmering guitar licks, rattling percussion; Krahmer's vocals alternate between a seductive croon and a cathartic release the band manages to mix funk and pop into an infectious groove... this outfit is uniquely talented especially Krahmer. Sirsy are collectively more skillful than a fair number of artists who've found themselves in the modern pop-rock spotlight."
— Ethan Covey, Music Editor, Seven Days Newspaper / Burlington, VT (April 2002)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...the band puts in 12 tight performances on 'At This Time (Live)'. Singer Melanie Krahmer has a vocal versatility, waxing by turns soulful, angelic and downright bitchy while staying in command of the audience. Given the live crowd’s enthusiastic response, you can imagine Sirsy might be best appreciated live."
— Colin Clary, Seven Days Newspaper / Burlington, VT (Jan 03)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"....a lot of heart and the most effectively realized arrangements to emerge from an area studio in recent memory... Melanie Krahmer’s robust, attitudinal vocals are immediately arresting, the guitar and bass work is as nimble and professional as Krahmer’s singing. All the individual elements are tasty, from Krahmer’s ballsy belting and occasional flute solos to the solid rhythm provided by Libutti (on bass)."
—Peter Hanson, Metroland / Albany & Upstate, NY (Feb 2001)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sirsy is hot, and with each passing day sultry singer Melanie Krahmer is looking more and more like the girl most likely to succeed. ...a funkified, grrl-powered modern rock power house with a mature batch of songs and a combo tightened by plenty of live work."
—Michael Eck, Albany2Go.com/ Albany & Upstate, NY (Feb 03)

REVIEWS FOR THE NEW CD "REVOLUTION"
[+ Show ]
"Ear catching, lyrically smart and musically sound. The snappy CD seeps a bit into mainstream rock, ..."Ear catching, lyrically smart and musically sound. The snappy CD seeps a bit into mainstream rock, a good
idea and one that works, apparently, because it got this critic's attention. With her lusty voice and Libutti's
clever guitar fills ... "Revolution" ought to take the duo to another well-deserved level... sees Krahmer's voice
becoming an identifiable one– no small feat in the sea of music we live in– from a smoky whisper to a throaty
growl, it is as good as it gets, and one you'll put up against anyone. And I mean anyone."
— D. Perkins, Connecticut Valley Spectator (2007)
"From the play button, "Revolution" is a great disc... punchy, musical, and poison ivy-style contagious. "
— CE Skidmore, The Post-star (Glens Falls, NY 2007)
"Packed with 10 sharp, hook-filled original tunes by the duo, "Revolution" is a winner, with strong, seductive
vocals by Krahmer. None of these tunes are clunkers."
— Gregg Haymes, Times Union (Albany, NY/ 2007)
"..."Revolution" is 10 tracks of well-crafted, catchy, pop-inflected rock songs."
— Philip Schwartz, Daily Gazette (2007)
