Biography

International, Experimental, World Pop Alternative Musical Collective LA GUERRILLA feature: Singer/guitarist Enrique Rumiche, drummer/samples Paul Joseph Loney, horns/percussion/vocalist Zumbi, keybordist/singer Oscar Interiano, Upright bassist Jeff Grauzer, with Joseph Woullard on baritone sax and flutes, Michelle Alany on violins.

After moving back to Austin from Baton Rouge, LA, Peruvian songwriter Enrique Rumiche recruited musicians on craisglist, coffeeshops, and even parties. As he began working on a project called "Guerrilla of Lilliput". Not having a complete band, he wrote most of their material with the help of drum machines and samplers. Accompanied by friends on percussion, violin, samplers, bass, trombone they began playing at coffee shops.

In the Spring of 2008, they recorded a demo maxi single. Soon after they were performing at several city festivals, and local TV shows backed by a rotating group of musicians. By the end of the year they decided to become a full-fledged band, now known simply as LA GUERRILLA.

Adding energetic showmanship, DIY theatrics, and an array of props (toy accordions, megaphones, and motorcycle helmets) to their shows; the new lineup began touring and creating a buzz around the Texas area. In January 2010 they released their self titled debut E.P. After playing at several local, and state festivals, Austin blogs took notice calling LA GUERRILLA "The Next Up and Coming Austin Band". On May 27th, 2010 their hometown’s city council declared "La Guerrilla Day" in the City of Austin. Moreover, earlier in 2011 they were featured on NPR with their single "Ganas no me Faltan". After being featured on Telemundo, CBS, Fox, Univision, BestFestivals.net, The Austin american Statesman, the Austin Chronicle and more, now you can catch them on PANDORA, and SPOTIFY radio. Internationally the band has had their latest EP "Adios Lala Land?" reviewed with great acceptance in Peru and Colombia as well.
The band is currently working on videos, and their third recording (1st Full Length), already collaborating with members of Black Joe Lewis, and Grupo Fantasma on the production and performing on the record.

PRESS REVIEWS:

""Heralded by plethora of local bloggers as Austin's unofficial "Next Up-Coming Band" La Guerrilla's six man ensemble seamlessly fuses world and contemporary influences in an energetic display of unbridled style that is completely their own." Their toe-tapping mixture of “acoustic punk, gipsy Latin, folk rock, ska techno” struck a chord with the Austin City Council who recently made May 27th “La Guerrilla Day”. The piercing gipsy violin, reminiscent of Gogol Bordello, compliments the vocal diversity of singer Enrique Rumiche who employs the late spirit of Sublime frontman, Brad Nowell when belting out harmonies and vigorous interjections in both Spanish and English.
