Biography
From psychodelic patterns and hard beats to rock rhythms and drum rolls, The Hi-Priest HXN posseses the variety not many rappers have.
After a stint with the crew thing, HXN decided to take matters into his own hands by going solo. He released his debut album, “The Hi-Priest”, and started a buzz with it in early 2004. Receiving airplay on underground and college radio across the US and in Canada, including internet radio such as Scrub Radio and Myspace, the album combined elements of electronica, hip-hop, and rock that resulted in a type of style different in many ways. Songs like ‘No. 1 Sinner’, and ‘Prayin’ Mantis Style’, which reached #2 on BUZZRadio's Top 30 chart, flash the hard-ass vibe listeners can appreciate. He further improved his resume by landing 2 soundtrack spots in the Substance Production film, ‘The Writing on the Wall: The Real American Graffiti’, a documentary depicting the relationship between hip-hop culture and the graffiti arts.
He represents his hip-hop flavor with joints like 'Way After Dark' and 'Can't Act Right', while still touching on his torsion-like approach that solidfies his stance on 'Smith and Wesson' and Diplomacy'. Both of those songs send a strong message about current events with a passion that is only possessed by someone who is tired of the same old "same ol". Now, with the addition of a live DJ on the scratching, the act takes us back to the Golden Era of hip-hop, where it was essential to have 2 turntables and a microphone involved at once.
HXN has stained the underground rap scene with an appetite for more, while performing at spots within the Chicago-area scene such as the Durty Nellie's and Goose Island. "I try to focus on creativity as well as content", says HXN. "Most rappers like to battle and talk crap about each other. Although that's cool, I want to do more than that. A good jam is more important than a good diss." With that mindset, HXN will ensure that his mark goes deeper than most ever thought.
