Cliff Lee has to be the hottest thing coming out of Philadelphia these days? Make way Phillies fans ...Cliff Lee has to be the hottest thing coming out of Philadelphia these days? Make way Phillies fans and provide a standing ovation to hometown rapper dirtydirtbaby who doesn't need capital letters for you to respect his name. The leading artist from indie label Junkman Entertainment, dirtydirtbaby's rhymes are far from garbage, but a mixed pile of rawness and utter truth that might even rock the Liberty Bell.
We roll with dirty because he doesn't care about right or wrong, swag or wack, and especially conscious versus party records. Dirty puts tracks together that everyday people can rock to -- everyday people with the most intense inner thoughts, that is. With cuts like "$5 Hooker" where he offers up the most extreme measures of instant gratification to "Gold Fever" where dirty speeds up the tempo telling peeps "Without a grill on my face/Only Colgate/I make my teeth shine with toothpaste/I'm fake, knock off frames for cheap skates/Scrubbed down Air Force 1's with bleached laces/Today, I can't get my sh*t straight", you might compare this fella to the 1999 version of Eminem.
Dirty might be one of the most truthful emcees out there right now. He's not afraid to tell you that he's broke and in need of a quick fix or that dental hygiene is the only thing keeping his grill gleaming. Can you blame him? In times when raps are about flashy chains and blowin' money as fast as you can get it, this stallion is making your bragging look downright silly. Don't believe the hype, then check his grit in person during one of his monthly sets at The Legendary Dobbs in South Philly. Even if that doesn't do it for you, then you could always get your hands on his recently released EP, Always True, where you'll hear a guest appearance from Philly rap battle king Cassidy. The EP has earned him accolades on renowned music websites like XXLMag.com and Hip-HopDX.
In a few years, the rap mainstream will definitely be showing this Philly cat some brotherly love.
