Biography

Drawing from the likes of Johnny Cash, Link Wray, Dick Dale, Slayer & even Black Flag hardcore, The Deuce And A Quarter is a four piece, fusing Metal and Electro Punk with a 50's vintage sound. The band is also known for incorporating film and animation to produce a visual live show.

Natives of the Big Apple, The Deuce And & Quarter played every venue from CBGBs, The Knitting Factory Main Space to Brooklyn's Trash, Bruar Falls, Galapagos and North Six clubs. The group's various releases received airplay at Barnard, SUNY Purchase, Cayuga College Auburn Radio stations.

Although nearly a decade previous the Deuce had originally formed and disbanded for artistic differences; founding member Paul Vickers (AKA Gringo) teamed up with Bassist Patrick Soriano in 2007 to reform the group with a fresh perspective; delivering the same hard hitting pop beats, albeit Vickers' cool 1960s guitars and rockabilly-esque vocals.

Joining the band is producer, blues-pianist Adam Chimera, gracing the music with overdriven keyboard and organs. On the drums, Jerry Rimesso's hot chops rival the likes of Mikkey Dee, Dave Lambardo and Peter Criss. Soriano, whose main influence is Geddy Lee, plays a dynamic Fender Jazz bass with massive overdrive presence.

Incorporating film and theatrics in their show, the band produces provocative animated films, projected on stage over the music which is both humorous and dark. Drawing inspiration from the underground and stag films of the 50s and 60s, The Deuce & A Quarter is a vastly appealing live experience that must be seen and heard to be believed.

  I was dragged out to band night at The Delancey Bar in lower Manhattan one night back in May. After quite a few martinis… I was drunk as a skunk and ready to go home. I had just seen a great set by The New York Dolls’ Steve Conte and his band. Then right after Steve, these greasy looking guys took over the stage and began setting up their equipment. One guy was duct taping a projector screen to the back wall. Another guy was fumbling with his cables awkwardly, and ignoring the onlookers.
  
  I thought to myself, “who are these pretentious assholes?” About 10 minutes later, the band leader, wearing a lime green cowboy shirt, began playing loud punk surf guitar out of an old Fender amp & singing Biafra style vocals with a bit of Pete Shelley thrown in. The bassist, a dark haired dude wearing a Rush shirt went speeding through his rhythms and reminded me of old school thrash. And the drummer played punk beats reminiscent of Gun Club’s Nick Sanderson. And the show was on fire! And I looked around me and these guys were holding the place captive.
  
  So who are these jerks that thought that mixing Slayer & Merciful Fate together with Buddy Holly, Dick Dale, Ritchie Valens and Del Shannon… and then calling it a band was a good idea?
  
  These jerks are The Deuce & A Quarter. And they are fantastic.
  
  Their show included original films, which were projected behind the drums. There were animated cartoons of the band members yelling and playing instruments…mixed with footage of old porno, war and atomic doomsday hocus. Mixed with god knows what. But it worked!
  
  Like watching one big messy B-movie, (Svankmeyer meets Tarantino) the music and the film ran seamlessly along to the show; with a presence that makes you think “wow, why weren’t these guys touring with The Church of The Subgenius back in 82? Well, sadly they’re a few decades too late. But, they are the next generation of where The Pink Floyd Laser Show left off and they aren’t messing around.
  
  The Deuce And A Quarter is likely the most innovative thing I’ve seen in a while. You have to go see these guys before they overdose on drugs, or get signed to a major label. ~ At Crash Mansion NYC, Nov. 5th. and Europa Night Club, (Brooklyn) Dec. 6th

  In Celebration of the release of 10 years Under The Knife box set, The Deuce played a gig at Galapagos Art Space with Kissy Kamikaze and Giggle The Ozone. Loud, fast, screeching rock with a backdrop of Vickers Bastard Gringo films, brace yourself for an assault of the senses and the nonsenses.
  
  Obviously, once we revert to cannibalism in the coming decades, The Deuce And A Quarter will be among the ones who will most benefit. Be afraid, be very afraid!!
