Biography

A native from Sofia, Bulgaria, Harpist Tomina Parvanova is a high-demand musician having performed with major orchestras and ensembles such as Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Ballet, Opera Boston, Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) among others. In 2011 Ms. Parvanova was a harp fellow at the prestigious Tanglewood Music Festival, and currently Ms. Parvanova holds Principal harp positions with Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra and New England Philharmonic Orchestra.
Ms. Parvanova is a winner of numerous awards and honors such as first prize at the Bulgarian International Young Artists Competition “Young Virtuoso”, second prize of the USA International Music Competition, as well as being chosen between candidates from all over the world to perform on the 9th World Harp Congress, Dublin "Focus on Youth" concerts. Ms. Parvanova was also a winner of the "Ann Hobson Pilot Scholarship" (2009, 2011). Other honors include second prize at the National Music Academy Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria and third prize at the International Festival of Music "Coast of Hope" Dobrich, Bulgaria.
As a great collaborator of contemporary music, she has performed with New Music groups such as Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Sound Icon, Ludovico Ensemble, Xanthos Ensemble and Brandeis University Contemporary Ensemble. In addition, she gives class presentation as well as individual consultations to composers who are interested in writing for the harp. Additionally, Ms. Parvanova is featured on recordings with Boston String Quartet, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Providence Singers, “Muziko Monda” World Music Ensemble and Pazardjic Symphony Orchestra, Bulgaria.
While in Bulgaria, Ms. Parvanova was a principal harpist with Sofia Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, Pazardjic Symphony Orchestra, Bulgarian National Academy Symphony Orchestra and she has also toured through Europe with collaborative European Orchestras. She also appeared as a soloist with Pazardjic Symphony Orchestra performing the Dottersdorf Concerto for Harp and Orchesta.
Ms. Parvanova attended Master Classes with Elizabeth Fontan-Binoche, Marie-Pierre Langlamet, Emily Mitchell and Sioned Williams and has worked closely with Ursula Holliger and Rita Costanzi. In June 2009 Ms. Parvanova was a harp fellow at The Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, Vancouver B.C. She has performed in some of the most prestigious venues such as Boston Symphony Hall, Seji Ozawa Hall, Jordan Hall, Bulgaria Hall (Sofa, Bulgaria), Konservatorium Wien (Vienna, Austria).
Under a full scholarship, Ms. Parvanova completed her Bachelor of Music Degree in Harp Performance from The Boston Conservatory in 2009. While at the conservatory, Ms. Parvanova was a winner of the Boston Conservatory Chamber Music Honors Competition and was a soloist of the Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble premiering “Zusienku” by Igor Iwanek – Poem for Harp and Wind Ensemble, written especially for her. Awarded a full tuition scholarship at Boston University College of Fine Arts, Ms. Parvanova completed her Masters Degree in Harp Performance in 2011.
Ms. Parvanova’s primary teachers were Ann Hobson Pilot, Cynthia Price-Glynn, Ursula Holliger, Malina Hristova and Kohar Andonian.
