Biography

Prepare yourself!!! The Barons of Tang are here! Gracing stages all over the world, this rag tag bunch of misfits are slowly building an empire out of gaffa tape and dirt. Mixing Klezmer and Balkan feels with jazz, bent folk music and whatever’s lying around the kitchen, these guys are making waves in the duck pond!

Leaving a trail of battered dance floors in their blazing wake, The Barons of Tang have played a swag of festivals across the globe including WOMAD NZ, Auckland Arts Festival, Woodford Folk Festival 2008 & 2010, Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival, Milwaukee PrideFest (USA), North West Folklife Festival (USA), Widows Peak Festival (USA) and recently showcased as a headline Act at the 2011 Australasian World Music Expo.

The Barons of Tang have supported Internationals such as Fanfare Ciocarlia - Gypsy Kings and Queens, Paprika Balkanicus, gypsy punk heroes Gogol Bordello, and will support The Pogues in April during their 2012 Australia Tour.

Other upcoming performances include WOMADelaide 2012, the Australian Performing Arts Market, Splore Festival (NZ), Florida's Tropical Heatwave Festival and Pennsylvania’s Mad Summer Meltdown Festival.

From mid 2012, The Barons of Tang will embark on a huge tour of North America and Europe, having been invited to perform at several major festivals. Their five month ”End of The World Tour” will from see them on the road from May to September 2012.

The Barons of Tang have released two CD's, their self-titled EP (2008) and "Knots and Tangles" (2010) which is distributed by The Planet Company. They are slated to release their debut album in early 2013.

The Barons of Tang are a dynamic and creative collective and a well organised machine. Their live show is adaptable to any performance environment and the group is amicable to creative collaborations with other artists and performers.

Defying classification, the Baron’s signature sound captures audiences from the very first note. Heavily influence by traditional Eastern European Folk music as well as punk, Garage and surrealist literature, the Baron's compose music that has one foot in the toaster and the other in the bath. The instrumentation of the band is a unique feature of the septet, which includes Accordion, Bass Clarinet, Trombone, Double Bass and Percussion. Simply put no one else sounds like this!

Carlos Parraga - Accordion
Aviva Endean - bass clarinet, Clarinet
