Biography

KJ Hines (Kristopher James Hines) born on June 14, 1989 in Georgetown TX, a suburb of Austin TX, is on his way to fulfilling his dreams as a multi-talented rapper, singer, songwriter, and musician. KJ proved his stardom potential at the age of nine as he entertained his family with rapping, singing and playing the piano.

KJ established a name for himself in the Austin area at the age of 12, with his exciting and unique shows around and within the city. This young Artist is the next face and voice of Hip Hop with his vibrant nonstop energy that can only add to the game, and is on the verge of blowing it wide open! His style and talent has put him in front of some of the most vital names in the business. KJ has captured the attention of various labels and industry entities. With the encouragement of his, father the owner of the label in which KJ is signed (Dap Records). KJ will remain independent until the right deal comes alone.

KJ Hines has a unique style of rapping using a Hip Hop sound with an R&B feel. His awesome performance has landed him on the stage with some of the greatest Hip Hop and R&B artists of all time. As an opening act, KJ would always catch the crowd’s attention with his unique style of flowing and playing the keyboard. During his career, KJ has opened for LIL Wayne, Chris Brown, Pretty Ricky, LIL Flip, CHamillionaire, and Baby Boy Da Prince

KJ has had the Honor of performing at Fort Hood, TX for the US troops returning home from Iraq. KJ Hines a teen sensation has earned him the name Da prince of the city. He has truly lived up to that name with his #1, single Capital City, representing Austin capturing the attention of the south.

KJ has always been a great achiever in endeavors that he has pursued. In School, he was an attentive and good student maintaining grades of excellence. KJ participated in a variety of sports, but favors Martial Arts. He began taking karate at age seven earning his red belt. KJ left karate for a period, to play football, basketball and skateboarding. KJ decided to return to Martial Arts, switching from karate to Kung Fu earning his black belt. Despite the enjoyment of Kung Fu, his music was demanding more of his time and he made the decision to devote the abundance of his time to his music career.

At 22, he is focused and centered on his career and providing entertainment to a broader audience throughout the United States as well as internationally.

KJ Hines now lives in Atlanta GA.

  As an established 17-year-old rap professional, KJ Hines spares little time for irresponsibility. Ma...As an established 17-year-old rap professional, KJ Hines spares little time for irresponsibility. Managed out of Cedar Park by his father, Walter Hines, KJ's burgeoning entertainment career insists on the proliferation of positive ideals. Whether rapping, singing, or playing piano, he channels everything in his power to squash negative stereotypes too often imposed upon young African-American men.
  "When you see a rapper, you shouldn't automatically assume that he's a gangsta just based off of how he looks or what he's wearing," frowns KJ. "That's certainly not what I'm about, yet people seem to make that false assumption time and time again."
  Gaining his first taste for show business at the age of 11 in a touring church choir, Hines set his musical sights for the sky and benefited early and often from the unyielding support of his parents. With piano lessons feeding his aptitude for teenage rap, the teen's calculating mind and impulsive voice did the rest. It quickly became apparent to his father that showcasing such talent was an imperative.
  "When we were watching KJ grow up and develop musically," indicates Walter Hines, "the question we kept asking ourselves was, 'Why in the world would we not invest in our child?'"
  Beyond his self-released 2006 album, Capital City, the video for its title track, and road gigs opening for Lil Wayne and Lil' Flip, KJ's latest chaperoned adventure emerged as a trip to the West Bank of New Orleans for a cameo appearance in a Baby Boy video. When an appreciation of meeting genius producer Mannie Fresh can be enthusiastically shared by father and son, all concepts of a generation gap fly out the tour-van window.
  "As far as my dad being so involved in my life," boasts KJ, "I look at it as a blessing. I'm extra glad he's not a drill sergeant about it."
  Motivating himself as a lyricist, Hines often begins a verse chanting simply only to shift gears into full-fledged arpeggios of double-timed flow. On "Daily Grind," Houston's Kiotti joins him for a whirlwind exploration of how to wreck a beat assembled to withstand hurricane gusts by Elgin's Big Bailey. Rapping at jaw-dropping speeds and playing piano at the same time completes the KJ Hines package. At present.
  "Ultimately, I try to teach a lesson with my raps," he concludes with a confident glimmer in his eye. "Right now, I'm keeping it fun, since people my age mostly want to dance and let loose. When I get older, I can be more like Mr. Blakes."

He has also performed at many famed Austin venues, including the Austin Music Hall, the Travis County Expo Center, and University of Texas favorite, the Sigma Chi fraternity house. As a more patriotic gesture, he performed for US troops returning from Iraq at Fort Hood.
  KJ first got his start when a mutual friend introduced him to Atlanta-based producer Skrapp. The two have since collaborated on a video for the single, "Up and Down," which is posted on KJ's YouTube channel, "officialkjhinestv." While his hip-hop sound and R & B feel have attracted the attention of major companies, KJ maintains the support of indie-label Dap Records, where he first got his start. Through Dap he released his debut album, entitled "capital city," as a reference to his mature lifestyle as a 16-year-old.
