Biography

The Kamikaze Queens are a saucy, tough and tantalizing female fronted rock’n’roll performance band from Berlin self defined as "Berlin Punk Cabaret." Soon to debut their second full length album, Automatic Life, the Queens take their original one-of-a-kind show on the road with 14 new tracks—once again showing their many colors and musical influences in an explosive package of Punkrock, Garage, Swing, Burlesque, tales of night life, sea creatures, and good times gone bad. Don't let the upright-bass fool you, ‘cause this ain't no Rockabilly ... Kamikaze Queens are a wild mis-behavin’ mix; kickin’, screamin’ and rockin’ out of this world!

Fronted by two dazzling American female singers, Trinity Sarratt and Kathryn "Mad Kate" Fischer take turns at being sweet & sour, dancing, kicking, and playing percussion, together with one of Germany's hottest Guitar Players, Tex Morton (Mad Sin, Sunny Domestozs, Chip Hanna), Acrobatic Upright Bass Player "Luscious Lloyd" Clark (Sin City Circus Ladies) from Upstate New York, and Nico "Lipps" Lippolis from Bella Italia on Drums, the Kamikaze Queens live experience is "like a suicide pilot dive- bombing your Rock'n'Roll senses" ... and pushing up daisies.

With the release of their debut album "Voluptuous Panic" (Sounds of Subterrania/Cargo 2009) they have toured all over Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and the USA at SXSW 2009. From Punk Clubs to Theaters, Psycho Shows to Heavy Metal Festivals, to the Tiniest Bar in Texas, the Kamikaze Queens conquer and titillate any and every situation with their unique and one of a kind ensemble, made in Berlin.

Their brand new full length album, Automatic Life (Sounds Of Subterrania/Rough Trade/Autumn 2011), embodies the breadth of style that the Kamikaze Queens deliver, from a 24 hour Southern stomper at the Tastee 29 to the dark and mysterious call of Night Life. Snagged on My Stiletto is a cocktail of switchblade cool and punk-rock attitude. Strap in for a night of breaking hearts and raging Rock'n'Roll—Hell hath no fury like a strong woman in stilettos with a cat o’ nine tails! Good Times is the hit that’s engine don’t run on gasoline. It’s got all the lust, glamour, broken glass, bloody knees, booze and heartache that leaves you torn and frayed … but comin’ back for more. The story twists and dives deep into the sea with Sweet Geraldine and I Was a Teenage Mermaid. They tell the tale of the mermaid Geraldine who has to leave everything she knows to follow her nagging curiosity and her rebellious spirit. Though her family might kill her, she’s drawn to the rough and tumble, whores and trannies, punks and freaks that await her on land. Add to that a little John Waters-esque absurdity with a 60's dance-craze number, Do The Crab—which is actually the first song Tex Morton ever wrote the music AND lyrics to—and you’re hooked, line and sinker! Joined by special guests on horns, singing saw and cello, as well as guest vocals, kazoos, whistles, The Kamikaze Queens take a whole new approach to Rock'n'Roll.

  Die EAGLES OF DEATH METAL sind an diesem Abend ganz augenscheinlich angetreten, um nicht nur gute Musik, sondern auch gute Laune unters Volk zu bringen, und was soll man sagen: es ist ihnen hervorragend gelungen! Mit im Handgepäck: zwei äußerst schicke Vorbands, zum einen die KAMIKAZE QUEENS aus Berlin, die wie eine sympathische Mischung aus PEACHES, den DRESDEN DOLLS und MAD SIN daherkommen. Zum anderen: THE SPORES, Elektropunk aus Los Angeles, mit einer stark an Nina Hagen erinnernden Sängerin ? Molly McGuire, die bereits auf ?Songs For The Deaf? von den QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE zu hören ist ? und einem großartigem Puppenspieler-Intro ? die Bezeichnung ?electro-stoner dance rock with puppets? macht ihrem Namen hier alle Ehre. Am Ende ihres Sets überzeugt die Band noch einmal mit einer tollen Coverversion: ?Should I stay or should I go? mit der Melodie von ?Sound of silence?. Aber kommen wir zur wichtigsten Band des heutigen Abends: den EAGLES OF DEATH METAL. Großartig! Sänger Jesse Hughes ist ein hervorragender Entertainer und ein geborener Frontmann, macht den einen oder anderen Kilometer auf der Bühne, verschenkt mit unendlicher Großzugigkeit seine gebrauchten Kämme und Handtücher (iiih!), erzählt köstliche Anekdoten und animiert die Menge (besonders die Damen) immer wieder zum Mitsingen, Schreien, Hände strecken. Allerdings müsste er das nicht tun, denn die Band steht musikalisch ganz klar für sich und kann das Publikum schon allein durch ihren Sound, eine Mischung aus klassischem Garage- und Stoner-Rock ganz für sich gewinnen. Außer ihren eigenen Hits wie ?I want you so hard? und ?I got a feelin?? spielen sie Coverversionen von ?Beat on the brats? und ?Stuck in the middle with you?. Einziger Minuspunkt: ein T-Shirt kostet dreißig Euro! Ist das mittlerweile normal? So nicht. Aber ansonsten: Chapeau, die Herren.

  Wurden die gestern eigentlich auch live im Web übertragen? Zumindest wurden die gefilmt.
  Bestehend aus den Ex-Mitgliedern der "Sin City Circus Ladies" (die ich auch schon als QOTSA-Support erleben durfte) Trinity Tarantula, Luscious Lloyd und Tom Schwoll, der weiteren Frontfrau Mad Kate sowie Tex Morton und dem ansehnlichen Drummer Nico Lipps, bescherten uns die Kamikaze Queens eine fantastische Rockshow: ein bißchen Rockabillly im John Waters Look mit Punkpower. Wirklich sehr genial. Mad Kate und Trinity geizten nicht nur mit ihren Reizen (wobei ich bei der Lady in Red häufiger an die Textzeile von Lilly Allen "Good dancing love but you should have worn a bra" aus "Friday Night" denken mußte), sondern waren auch extrem gut bei Stimme.
  Wer sich ein bißchen auskennt, kann vielleicht was mit der Beschreibung "Musik ähnlich der Horrorpops" was anfangen, für alle anderen ist diese Mischung aus Rock, Punk und Rockabilly etwas schwierig zu beschreiben. Sehr sexy, sehr trashig, tierisch rockend. Kann diese Truppe nur empfehlen!!

  While pinpointing a bands genre can be dumb and sometimes dumber, I find it refreshing when you can’...While pinpointing a bands genre can be dumb and sometimes dumber, I find it refreshing when you can’t really give a bona fide description to a band. One of those bands is a hometown favorite of mine here in Berlin known as Kamikaze Queens.
  
  With members from the States, Germany, and Italy, Kamikaze Queens have been chompin’ away at the bit here in Europe for about a year and a half now. They just released their first long player on one of my fave eclectic labels, Sounds Of Subterrania, entitled Voluptuous Panic! While currently only available on 12 inches of sweet wax in a sexy gatefold, the CD version will be released in January. For my favorite type of music consumer, the vinyl addict, you can order it at Cargo or directly from the label.
  
  Musically speaking, it’s like the four flavors: salty, sweet, sour (in the jawbreaker sense), and HOT!! A bit Blondie, a touch of X, a pinch of Vaudeville, a loaf of FUN! For those in the New York area, the band will be playing a couple shows in Mid-March before headin’ to Austin for that SxSW fest, where they’ll be playing a hand full of gigs. In summary, I have to borrow an album title from TLC for my last words…Crazy, Sexy, Cool!

  Die KAMIKAZE QUEENS spielen Punkrock, Garage, souligen Rockabilly, dreckigen Jazz mit Cabaret und Variete-Elementen. Die zwei Damen Trinity und Mad Kate bedienen die Front stimmlich. An der Twang-Gitarre hämmert Tex Morton, den man von MAD SIN oder NITRO 17 kennt, dreckige Riffs in den Raum, während Lusious Lloyd den Bass slappt und Nico Lipps auf die Felle einhämmert. Das Album klingt und wirkt auch vom Artwork wie irgendwelchen Absinth-Kellern oder dem Cabaret Voltaire entsprungen und direkt in die Garage-Keller der End 1960er geflüchtet. Noch immer verfolgt von dem dicken Hans Arp mit seinem fleischigen Dada-Messer.
  Die KAMIKAZE QUEENS werden deutlich von den beiden Frontfrauen geprägt, die wie eine launische, sexuell fordernde (doch, ja!) Tiger Lilly klingen. Durch Punk, eine verlotterte Blutlust und prämenstruelle Dekadenz entsteht ein verrufenes musikalisches Gemälde. Bekannt sind die KAMIKAZE QUEENS durch ihre schräge live-Performance, die sie unter anderem beim Touren mit den EAGLES OF DEATH METAL und den QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE bewiesen haben.   "Charmanter Bubblegum-Garagen-Trash-Pop’n’Roll, so simpel wie nötig und so filigran wie möglich. Frontfrau Trinity Sarratt und Kontrabassist Luscious Lloyd waren schon bei den Sin City Circus Ladies ein Team, und deren Gitarrist, der notorische Tom Schwoll (Jingo De Lunch, Extrabreit u.v.m.), hat hier auch noch bei diversen Songs seine Finger im Spiel. „Berlin Punk Cabaret“ nennt die Band ihre Kunst, musikalisch trifft das allerdings nur für die Country-Cabaret-Nummer „The Morning After“ und den Titeltrack zu, wo sie nach Art der Dresden Dolls das Brecht’sche Erbe pflegen. Und selbst bei diesen Songs wird ihnen das bald zu langweilig und sie brettern lieber im Voodoo-Surfabilly-Style nach vorne. Das tun sie genauso souverän wie ihre Genre-Kollegen von Mad Sin, dafür sorgt nicht zuletzt Rock’n’Roll-Legende Tex Morton (u.a. Lolitas, Mad Sin) an der Gitarre."

Sowohl die Show als auch die Musike war so wunderbar vielseitig und die beiden Mädels auf der Bühne eine Mischung aus David Lynch Charaktere und Chucky die Mörderpuppe… aber im positiven Sinne. Irgendwie schräg genial bis zu völlig abgedreht passten auch die restlichen Musiker Luscious Lloyd am Bass, Tex Morton an der Gitarre und Lipps an den Drums ins Bild.. letzterer war leider etwas mäßig ins Bild zu bekommen. :-) … Während eine der beiden Mädels den Song zum besten gab, kletterte die andere wild an den Pfeilern des Clash Clubs rum… und gab lasziv eine Mini-Burlesque Nr. zum besten… um dann gleich wieder in die Menge zu springen, abzutanzen und per Hechtsprung über die Box wieder auf der Bühne zu landen… Ick sag mal…. ROCKnROLL meets Punkburlesque mit Hang zum Suizid und der Einstellung: Wenn ick schon dahinscheide nehme ich noch drei bis vier mit… (letzteres ist natürlich nur sprichwörtlich.. !).. kurzum... es war soooo genial..."

I waited a long time to see them again, well worth it. The fully packed club and humid air made front babes Trinity and Mad Kate even more hot and sweaty, gyrating out their sexy story toons. Nico Lippolis, Luscious Lloyd, and Tex Morton rounded out the musical side and showed why this band should be in the next Tarantino film! Go see this band!"
