Biography

A vibrant vocalist with a love of both jazz and modern music, Carolyn Lee Jones serves up an eclectic repertoire of familiar jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, as well as popular songs and new material all with a jazz sensibility. Influenced by such jazz icons as Anita O’Day and Shirley Horn and popular singers like Diana Krall, Sade and Laura Nyro, with her rich and expressive vocals, Ms. Jones has emerged as a prolific interpreter of song.

The child of gifted musicians, Carolyn grew up in Nebraska and began her musical journey throughout her school years singing in choirs and studying voice. After graduation, the lure of a bigger city drew her to Dallas, Texas where she embarked upon a first successful career in retailing. A buyer for major department stores, Carolyn traveled the world and continued to seek out music related opportunities. Even while she was traveling working her day job, she continued developing her craft and found opportunities to perform . It wasn’t long before Carolyn left her successful retail career to pursue music full time as a jazz vocalist.

In December 2008, Ms. Jones recorded in New York City and released her debut CD, “Bon Appétit!” which has garnered excellent reviews. Noted jazz critic Scott Yanow said, “Bon Appétit is a solid start for what will hopefully be a productive career.” Christopher Loudon, for Jazz Times Magazine wrote, “Jones maintains a dusky undercurrent that drips with sensuality.” This CD has listeners enthralled with the selection of songs and her treatment of them. Joined by an outstanding trio of top-rated New York musicians, special guest Bob Dorough makes a swinging appearance on piano and sings with Jones on his special duet arrangement of Devil May Care. Carolyn is currently working on her follow up release.

Jones performs with her jazz ensemble around the metropolitan Dallas area, and has appeared in New York City. From intimate cabaret to straight ahead jazz, she performs with her jazz groups at a variety of venues, jazz festivals and for corporate and private events. Her extensive repertoire combined with her outstanding musicians, are the ingredients for her successful and entertaining performances.

Carolyn sings with and serves on the board of The New Collection, a Dallas based a cappella vocal jazz ensemble, and is a music business consultant for other vocalists.

Setlist

Each set of 45 to 60 minutes is carefully chosen in advance and tailored for each particular special event or venue's audience. She will generally include song selections from her current CD Bon Appetit intermingled within the set lists during each musical engagement.

Carolyn also produces and performs unique 60-90 minute intimate shows intendended for a discriminating, listening audience. Perfect for supper clubs, private parties, living room concerts and other intimate venues.
