Biography

Flummies (flum`-meez`) n. - traditional Labrador trappers’ bread using a mixture of flour, salt and baking powder

Over the past three decades the Labrador band, THE FLUMMIES, have been performing at various theatres, events and music festivals in various provinces and territories of Canada. Button accordion jigs and reels, mixed with self penned country/rock favorites, continue to please audiences in Atlantic Canada and in Northern Canadian communities.

The Flummies have recorded and released 8 cds and were featured in their own television special titled “Labrador Originals” produced thru Bravo! Canada and APTN. The Flummies record and release on their own independent label KENAMU RECORDS.

The Flummies are a 6 piece band homebased in Goose Bay Labrador. They have a special sound and style not parelled by any other band we have heard.

The Flummies continue to thrill audiences today and back during a tour of Germany a decade ago plus performed 26 shows at the base of the CN Tower in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for a provincial tourism event. From coast to coast, eastern Canadian traditional music has become a favoured Canadian commodity

  Some of the country's top aboriginal talent will take the stage at this weekend's Arm of Gold Aboriginal World Music Festival in the Cape Breton community of Eskasoni. "We've had other music festivals in the past, but this is the first of this scale, with 20 bands performing in three days," said event manager Keith Dawson. Performers include a capella group Asani and country music artist Mike Gouchie from Edmonton, Alta., as well as 2003 ECMA award winners The Flummies, hip hop and rap artists, Neema from Montreal, British Columbia actor/musician Glen Gould, and local artists Carmen Townsend, Jennifer Roland, Jason MacDonald, Bobby Currie, Eric Angus Whyte, Forever, Second Generation and blues guitarist John Campbelljohn. This year's festival is a fundraiser to create a new festival site on Goat Island. The 77-acre island is being developed for the festival and other tourism projects hosted by the First Nations community. Dawson said he and artistic director Stan Johnson want to create a new event that will stake a spot on the international stage. When the festival moves to Goat Island in 2007, organizers want it to become a meeting place where many cultures converge and fine music and life-long memories are made, Dawson added. Their songs, known as “happy music”, is inspired by culture and is a mixed contemporary combination of accordion flavoured country rock - inspirational in both soft seat theaters and in the dance hall.
