Valia and the Kingdom of Joy

Genre: Avant-garde
London, Not Applicable United Kingdom Contact

Valia and the Kingdom of Joy's music is a fusion of genres for the quirky and inquisitive mind! A world where simplicity and complexity co-exist, where darkness and innocence meet. My songs have been aired on various live streaming radios, featured on Young Rebel webzine for September 2010 and on Tom Robinson's show "Introducing" on BBC 6.

Artist Information

Biography

Valia and the Kingdom of Joy..well can't quite pinpoint it ! I write all songs and performing all instruments as well as mixing, mastering, producing and promoting the songs!

I am inspired by many different genres, from contemporary classical music to folk and jazz, and other artistic disciplines such as contemporary dance, ancient greek tragedies, cabaret music and puppet theatre. My strongest influences are Bjork, Tom Waits, Harry Partch, The Tiger Lillies, Tori Amos, Miles Davis, Emiliana Torrini.

I look and aim for a raw and original sound. My songs reflect life with all its contradictions; moments of simple pleasure or moments of deep pain. The instrumentation is varied with steady beats and clashing melodies.

I studied Music and specialised in Composition. As well as songwriting I am also drawn to writing music for Theatre and Dance.

Instrumentation

Voice, guitars, mellodica/clarinet/recorder, cello, percussion.
