Biography

With Northwest Indiana roots and a strong Chicago following, Lying Delilah has burst onto the music scene.
Fronted by Jodi Rosenthal on keys with her sensual voice and complimented by Steve Pesich, bass, and Andrew Dumaresq, drums, Lying Delilah have begun to create a stir with their energetic and unique sound.
The band started with just Jodi, a self taught pianist, who began to dabble with song writing at the age of seventeen. After writing a few songs, Jodi realized music was where her heart was and invited long time friends and multi-instrumentalists Steve and Andrew to join her and form full time band, Lying Delilah in 2005. All agree that it was "instant magic" when they sat down and began feeding off each other's ideas, ultimately writing debut album, Polygraph (2005). Following short after in 2008, Lying Delilah released their second album, “With No Gravity”, followed by the release of their 3rd E.P, “Return The Love.” (2011).
All albums convey an unexplainable, adventurous sound. Jodi, no doubt, faces comparisons to female songstresses Fiona Apple and Tori Amos with her undeniable piano skills and heart melting vocals, but with the addition of Steve and Andrew and an eclectic combination of influences including Ben Folds, Etta James, Fiona Apple, Grace Potter, They Might Be Giants and Primus, the band has been able to defy such comparisons and combine various musical styles to create a sound unique and refreshing to today's music industry.
Lying Delilah's songs have a singer-songwriter feel, mixed in with soulful blues and topped off with a heaping of pop energy.
Even more impressive than 3 solid albums are Lying Delilah's live performances that capture the audience with the first melodic piano phrases and Jodi's jaw dropping voice. When the rest of the band joins in creating an explosively smooth sound, it truly is instant magic. Performances are high energy and it’s clear that the band members ooze feeling into their sets. This is where the band is strongest with dizzying piano melodies, a belting and soulful voice that you could feel 5 miles away, prominent bass lines and a drum beat (never without a smile) that completes the band's full sound. Such musical developments allow the band to satiate and appeal to the tastes of a wide, diverse audience. More recently, the trio has been playing with special guest, Mike Maimone, on organ, adding an explosive rock/blues sound that’ll be sure to get you up and moving.

  Highland's Lying Delilah may be one of Northwest Indiana's best-kept secrets, but Chicago picked up on this talented outfit some time ago.
  
  That's where they will be laying down their tunes tonight, along with the rockin' Kimi Hayes Band (also not to miss!), and singer/songwriter Jennifer Jennings.
  
  The three distinctly different artists are among the 16 who appear on the "Women In Music" compilation CD being officially released this week to radio stations by Just Cool Sounds, Inc.
  
  Lying Delilah are represented on the CD by their song "Ice Box."
  
  The band is fronted by vocalist/keyboardist/composer Jodi Rosenthal, a talented gal who long ago outgrew the tired Tori Amos and Fiona Apple comparisons.
  
  Rosenthal -- a twentysomething self-taught ivory tickler -- is more adventurous with her music, broader in her style, as she and her versatile band melds catchy modern pop with elements of prog-rock, and peppers it all with some tasty jazzy and bluesy overtones.
  
  She's also got a pinch of that Rickie Lee Jones' sassiness in her style and a soulful and sensual slickness a bit reminiscent to early Alicia Keys.
  
  Wrap it all up and Lying Delilah is a custom-made musical dream.
  
  Armed with well-written songs (Rosenthal began composing tunes at 17) and more than capably backed by multi-instrumentalists Steve Pesich and Andrew Dumaresq -- who both hail from uber-cool region jam band Groovatron -- Lying Delilah has released two albums of original music since forming just more than a half dozen years ago.
  
  "Polygraph" came in 2005 and ear-marked Rosenthal as a young talent to watch. By the time the "With No Gravity" CD followed in the fall of 2008, it became clear that what had begun largely as a one-woman project, had wonderfully matured into a full-band collective, with members sharing the same vision and meshing like gears in a well-oiled musical machine.
  
  While Rosenthal's keys remain the prominent instrument in their songs, it's the groove in the bass lines and beats of Pesich and Dumaresq that keep things driving and interesting.
  
  Sadly, Lying Delilah does not play too often in Northwest Indiana, but what they bring to the stage is well worth traveling the extra few miles to hear.
