Artist Information

Biography

Repeatedly described as “hard rocking” and “high energy”, Grrlz will be BoiZ is an all female, rock foursome based in Austin, Tx with an “Etheridge-esque rasp in the vocals and a Shirley Manson confidence worn very well on stage." (Bright Knife) Their style, which they describe as “Funk-pop, Roots-rock” pulls from varied influences, filtered down into the lyric driven, heavily rhythmic, pop-rock guitar music that defines them. Music once described as “eclectic, bluesy, danceable rock.” (Joseph Wegesa- blogger)

Deidre Newby writes for q-Notes, "Creativity and innovativeness... True lyricists [with] a unique edge to their rock sound... This rock and roll band is to be taken seriously."

GWbB is currently playing and promoting in support of their second release, Burn Through Me. The 11 track album was recorded in the Fall of 2009 at Penny Creek Studios, Austin, TX by Bradley Calhoun (Erin Ivey) and mastered at Stinson Studios, Austin, TX by John Stinson (John Pointer.) It’s a collection of stories that bring to light everything the band is passionate about including life, love and music.

"If you haven’t heard the musical musings of Grrlz will be BoiZ yet, it’s time you did! Their new album, “Burn Through Me” is pretty fantastic." - Amy Smith LezGoAustin.com

“Beautifully written, melodious, yet hard... Simply put, it’s great! A must buy. You cannot help but to bop your head to their funky, rock sound... along with catchy lines that make listeners go, ‘wow!’” - Deidre Newby, q-Notes

Grrlz will be BoiZ formed in the Spring of 2008. What began as four friends spending time jamming together, grew into more serious writing endeavors and real efforts to bring to an audience, music that could be hard but not abrasive, and be fun while carrying a message. The recurring message being, “be yourself and love yourself.”

Following the release of their debut EP, How We Ended Up This Way, their ability to connect to a wide and diverse audience has allowed GWbB to grow at a fast pace in the regional industry. They’ve earned coveted spots in the annual FriendsFest Women's Music Festival in Dripping Springs, TX in April ‘09, and ‘10 the Austin Pride Festival in June 2009, Her HRC, Austin- a national night of celebration for women’s rights in Jan. ‘10, and '11, Lickalotta Festival in Dahlonega GA, May ‘10, the kickoff party for the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival -(the biggest and longest running LGBTQI film festival in the Southwest) in Sept. '09 and the Official Girl Party for Pride Houston '11 (the largest Pride celebration in the Southern U.S.) They have also twice co-billed with the infamous God-dess & She for guerilla showcases during SXSW ‘09 and ‘10 and were livestreamed to an international audience as part of The Invasion of the GoGirls Festival in '11.

Through all they’ve done together thus far and for all they plan going forward, GWbB intends to apply the same messages of self love and perseverance that they deliver to their audience on stage and on the album, Burn Through Me...

“You’re not the only one trying to keep the pace. ‘Cause I’ve had my trials, had people spit in my face. But I know who I am now and it’s made me stronger. You can get there too won’t need that mask any longer. But it all comes down to you.” Mask, GWbB Burn Through Me
