Biography

City's career started at an early age. He wrote his first song to impress a girl, hoping that she would like it enough to become his girlfriend! Even though she was impressed, winning her affections would never happened.

Although he was hurt, he found that writing about his feelings helped him get over his misfortune, and made for some great song writing material.

Then in Jr. High school, City joined up with a couple of friends and started a group hoping that they could become famous and sell millions of records, but no one in the group really took it very seriously.....except, for City!
But it would take him a few more years, before anything would ever happen for him.

Finally, When visiting relatives in Philadelphia, City was invited too see a cousin... (RCA JIVE RECORDS PRODUCER;"Timmy Allen & famed bass player of R&B group: "Change") perform at a popular nightclub. After the show he met the groups manager, and told him that he was a performer as well as a songwriter.

The Manager invited him to audition for him at his office the next day, and was stunned by City's vocal and writing talent offering him a management deal on the spot! And wanted him to go on tour with his cousin band.

This was the break he had been waiting for, or so he thought!
Little did he know, that his time on the road would spent as a stagehand rather than an entertainer. After months of working stage lights, setting up equipment, sound checks and errand boy, City had had enough!
He told his manager too either let him perform, or he was going too walk....So he walked!!!!!

Realizing his mistake, his manager (Ernie Pep) decided to book time at "Alpha International Recording Studios". This was exactly what "CITY" had been waiting for.
There he recorded 4 demo's that his manager would eventually present to T.E.C. Records A&R man now famous Record Producer; " Nick Martinelli " who wanted to sign "CITY" to a developement deal with the Company. But, because of management indifferences....the deal never came to be for "CITY"

Soon after, his manager told him that he had just signed a new act that was the brother of a famous family recording group that had left them to go it alone as a soloist, his name was: "Victor Tavares" brother of the famed disco group: "Tavares" and City was about to become his opening act.

Since then, City, has not only toured as Victor Tavares' opening act. But he has written and produced for Artists like: Bobby Cook, Tony Sessions, Kevin Scott and Mimi.

Third place winner of the Budweiser Showdown. Appear on Dance T.V. show: Dancin' on air! Produced by Mike Nise. Performed at Phila. Radio stations HOT 97 fm's summer concert in the park, and has worked with such names as Kenny Gamble, Nick Martinelli and Bruce Hawes.

In 2000, City launch his own Independent Record Label: "Foxfire Entertainment", (now; 1.1.7 THE MUSIC) and released his first cd:"Respect Yourself" in 1999.

In August 2004, City will release his new cd: "City / Brown Paper Bag" and has every intention of making his voice be heard loud and clear!

With his new cd: " 2wice As Deep " due out in late July 2011,
once again CITY is ready too take on the world.

  CITY - BROWN PAPER BAG - (LP)
  This brown paper bag has lots to offer, and covers it's bases. It's got something for everyone. A bit of rap, r 'n' band soft house. There's some funky music goin' on here. Music has outstanding bass, percussion & special effects tracks in all arrangements. Vocals are equally as good. The most prominent tracks are , Breaking All The Rules, Tell Me More, Brown paper Bag and Come Up To My Room. These cuts all have nice lengths to them. Enjoy!

  Disco, Gud, hiphop och hemmabygge
  
  På omslaget: en bild av en svart man med lätt sorgsna ögon. På baksidan: en bild av en man i träningsoverall, sneakers, keps och hörlurar sittande på en parkbänk med händerna nedstoppade djupt i overalljackans fickor. Axlarna uppdragna. Bredvid honom en brun papperspåse, en sådan som alla amerikanska livsmedelsbutiker verkar föredra. Allt förpackat i ett oansenligt, brunt konvolut.
  
  Hiphop. Som bara den.
  
  Det var ungefär med den inställningen jag stoppade in "Brown Paper Bag", utgiven på det lilla oberoende skivbolaget 117 The Music, i stereon. Jag väntade mig att mötas av nio spår hiphop.
  
  Jag hade rätt. Och alldeles, väldigt fel.
  
  "Brown Paper Bag" öppnar med stenhårda pisktrummor i ett långsamt malande marschtempo tillsammans med en lågmält pumpande syntbas. Någon enstaka ljudeffekt. Sedan börjar City sjunga, nästan mässande. Allt byggt kring en enkel call-and-response-liknande refräng. (PUMP PUMP IT UP) Ett droppande keyboard läggs till och plockas lika snabbt bort igen. (PUMP PUMP IT UP) Det är fest. (PUMP PUMP IT UP) En dunkande klubbpuls. (PUMP PUMP IT UP) Monotont, repetitivt och nedstrippat som fan. (PUMP PUMP IT UP) Nästan hypnotiskt i sin enkelhet.
  
  När electrofierade rytmer sedan sparkar igång "Tell Me More" känns det som Kraftwerk på halvfart med anabolpumpade trummor. Ett ylande keyboard, några skrikande scratch-ögonblick och ett housepiano. Det är lika delar dans och Dr Dre i en klubb anno 1989.
  
  Men ungefär när jag tror att jag vet var jag har City så exploderar "Come Up to My Room" ut ur högtalarna och vänder upp och ner på allting. Från att tungt ha malt fram dansar City helt plötsligt ut på ett strålkastarbombat dansgolv med studsande rytmer och sound från valfri eurodance-singel från 1991, komplett med smattrande digitalvirvlar och väsande hi-hats. Men helt plötsligt låter City otäckt mycket som Byron Stingilys virvlande falsettstämma med ena foten i tvåtusentalet och den andra djupt nere i sjuttiotalets Philly-sound. Jag tänker eurodance, Ten City, Trax och Adamski. Men lika plötsligt som discokulorna slocknat och natten på rummet är förbi kraschar "Brown Paper Bag" in i en mörk dagenefterskildring om var ett förhållande egentligen börjar i "Don't Rush Me".
  
  Så fortsätter det, mellan nedstrippade och långsamt rullande hiphoprytmer och glimrande discogolv i garagens tecken. Det är den tuggummifnittriga Studio 54-festen i "Get Up/Get Out", med italo-housifierat piano och smurfade ljud, rygg mot rygg med ett patenterat Dr Dre-piano som bakgrund till otrohetshistorien i "Play'r" (på många sätt en kusin till "Shit, Damn, Motherfucker"). Det är texter om utslagenhet och fest. Disco och Gud (det känns inte som någon större överraskning att City hör hemma i New Jersey). Allt med samma känsla av hemmagjord och gråkornig lo-fi som på Cody ChesnuTT:s "The Headphone Masterpiece".
  
  På många sätt byggs hela "Brown Paper Bag" upp mot den åtta minuter långa discohymnen "Breakin' All the Rules" (med sitt intro som påminner inte så lite om "Blue Monday"). På samma gång som det är obekymrad fest, finns det också en vemodig sorgsenhet begravd bland de spelande strålkastarna. Och på två rader sammanfattas varför discon alltid varit den riktiga arbetarklassmusiken.

  Dansa för att glömma vardagen. Dansa och drömma om en bättre värld. Dansa för att orka med.
  
  Att ingen av låtarna på "Brown Paper Bag" är kortare än fem och en halv minut, tillsammans med det faktum att musiken ofta mejslats fram med få verktyg, gör att skivan är långtifrån lätt att ta sig in i. Men de malande rytmerna, och Citys röst, suger in mig varje gång.
  
  Höstens så här långt roligaste överraskning.

  I had the opportuntiy to interview "City" on my show, the "On The Horizon" radio show. I found City to be intelligent, accurate, and having a nice amount of class. His CD is super! Great dance CD, and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for party music. It is well conceived, well constructed, and well executed. This CD has great rhythm, and a catchy beat. It is very difficult to find a favorite, because they are all good! "Pump, Pump it up" is number 1 this week on the New Artist Radio charts!   In DEC. 2004, 1.1.7 THE MUSIC RECORDS, released a new cd by their premiere artist: "CITY". The cd entitled; "Brown Paper Bag" which was also written and produced by this talented artist, found it's way into clubs via some of the top record pools in NY/NJ/CT and Philadelphia. It stayed on these dj club charts top 50 for 15 weeks, charting 2 to 3 singles from the same cd at the same time.
  Pump /Pump it up, which was undeniably the club favorite on the cd, quickly made it's way onto some of the top internet based radio station on the web. To read the reviews on the "Brown Paper Bag" cd, is a treat in itself. (www.cdbaby.com/city) Never have i seen such an outpouring of love and support from radio dj's, magazine reviewers and fans as i have for this artist! Reaching #1 on the Top 40 Show in March of this year, was a blessing for City. During a phone interview by "On The Horizon", City was asked how it felt having a number 1 single. His responce was: I would have never guess that so many people would enjoy my music so much, and vote for me. It's a dream come true! Well the dream is alive and well, because his second single "Come up to my room" is making it's way quickly up the charts as well.
  This week at #29, there is no doubt that this track will do well also.
  To sum this cd up in a nut shell, Brown Paper bag is one of the best cd's out there. CITY has left no stone unturned, covering every genre of music
