Biography

Locklear hop-scotched his way through Kansas City and Nashville and eventually landed in Denver. After years of years of drinking water, he finally gave up the clear stuff and started drinking alcohol. Songs followed.

Spoon, Josh Ritter and The Jayhawks worked their way through a cheap pair of headphones to attentive ears and Locklear tried to imitate and pay homage to what he heard. False sense of accomplishment washed over like a deodorant shower.

After countless hours and countless dollars were put into a bag and mailed to a Canadian pharmacy, an Ep was recorded. Now these songs and others are played live and they cordially invite you to come see a show.

  Although the moniker slapped on "You're Fired!," the lead track from Calvin Locklear's new EP, can't...Although the moniker slapped on "You're Fired!," the lead track from Calvin Locklear's new EP, can't help but conjure Trumpian expectations, the ditty itself is an improbably buoyant affair, replete with jangly guitars and chooglin' percussion that build up plenty of pop pleasure. The cuts that follow aren't quite up to that standard, but neither do they fall flat. If "River Jordan" proves more meandering than necessary, "Carbonation" bubbles along nicely, the title tune locates the charm in simplicity, and "Talking Backwards" gets serious — even adding strings — without squelching Locklear's melodic sensibilities. Granted, his singing voice isn't terribly distinctive and his lyrics don't always add up. Yet by getting the most out of what he's got, he makes Dance well worth taking for a spin.

  Locklear is still young and that can lend itself to some rather trite phrasing from time to time, but his youth is also listed in his assets column, as it gives a bouncy exuberance to his songs.
  Watch Them Dance is a fine acoustic pop album and lays some good groundwork for Locklear to build an even stronger catalog.

Check out a few of them below; they're pretty smooth, nice indie rock gems, with some snazzy hand-clapping and percussion. He fits snugly into the male indie-rocker conglomerate.

I just checked the mp3's out and thought they were pretty sweet. He recently recorded his EP, 'Watch Them Dance' with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and former member of the Flobots, Bela Fleck. With influences like Spoon, Josh Ritter and Ben Folds, you'll have to give him a listen.
