Biography
Deerhead is a guitar and whisky driven rock band from Columbus, Ohio that combines elements of Southern Rock, 70’s Riff Rock, Psychedelia, Classic Country and American Roots Music. They have an appreciation for the analog and vintage in their instruments and their sounds. The band was formed in January of 2008 by Ricky Thompson, Sven Kahns and Faith Gehring - previously members of Hills, Muscle Puzzle, Go Evil Shiki, Frostiva and Mt. Cyanide - bands that are hardly known outside of Columbus, Ohio's music scene. They recorded a demo, Rivers and Woods, shortly after forming and self-released a limited number of copies in the spring of 2008. The three original members were joined by Brian Travis and Robbie Coleman, members of Church of the Red Museum, and debuted at Columbus’Carabar in April of 2008. Since then Deerhead has played in bars and clubs with healthy audience receptions in Ohio's three C's: Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati. Wanting to retain the guitar rich sound of their original demo they recently enlisted the help of Paul Goll on guitar and lap steel. In August of 2008 they recorded their as yet untitled full length and are currently seeking funding for its release.
