The Concept

Genre: Contemporary Christian
Secondary Genre: Rock Edgewood, New Mexico USA Contact

We sound like Psalms. Ice and sunlight, regret and joy. Being lost at sea, being found. And yes, we do sound like music... awesome music with interesting time signatures, violin/guitar/bass riffs, and sparkling piano and keyboard effects.

Biography

We are The Concept, and we play music.

We officially started in late 2007 with three band members: Nate, Melissa, and Lorenzo. After a couple of pianists--including Nate's brother Ryan and singer/songwriter Mandi--had come and gone, we went in a new direction by adding a new guitarist, Amanda, to our lineup for a more alt-rock sound. Liese-Marie, an expert violinist and talented singer, joined in 2011 and continues to lend her skills to our shows and recordings, despite being a more "unofficial" member.

We started by playing an eclectic mix of original songs and cover songs, and this helped us bond musically and launch into playing diverse and all-original sets. Since we had (for the most part) played together at church before college, it was a natural transition. Currently, we try to find new ways to surprise our fans at live shows by including guest musicians, a glow-in-the-dark guitar, and other fun additions.

Our name refers to two things:
1. As a band, we aim to create a variable music style that breaks off from the current popular music trend. Each of us is most familiar with a different style of music, and we aim to meld our musical views and experiences to create a completely new concept.
2. As individuals, we believe that we are currently only a concept of what God, in His creativity, is making us into. Because of His love and to His glory, Christ has redeemed us and is molding us into His image, and we exhibit this process in our day-to-day lives as well as in our music.

We believe that we, as a band, are called to display Jesus Christ through music. We also aim to create melodic tunes that connect with the listener in a personable way, since all of our music is derived from personal experiences and interactions. Finally, it is our goal to continually become better and better at what we do in order to present the best show our fans have ever seen!

So, thanks for reading, and thanks for listening! Stay tuned for more music and ideas!

your humble servants,
Nate, Melissa, Lorenzo, and Amanda

Setlist

We play a set list from our all-original song base that varies depending on who we are playing with, how long we have, and the location. Generally we play a mix of jazz, rock, and folk music. We like to invite our musically-inclined friends to play with us on certain songs.
Recently, we have been inserting various new songs into our set to let people get familiar with our recently released full-length album, Renaissance.

We generally spend about 45 min total.
