Bio

Since he was a teenager Charles Mazarakes has been making films. He always loved making them but there was something very special about taking the footage into a quiet editing room and placing one shot against another. That's when magic happened. Most magical of all was bringing music into these films. Instantly he could see what powerful effect music had. Drawing on his early keyboard training he began composing. Suddenly a door flung open and wondrous, eclectic, powerful music stormed in.

Charles has just released his third album "Child of the West"
Composer Dr. Madelyn Byrne has featured his music at several "Electro-Acoustic Music Experience" productions at Palomar College and he's presently working with on several projects with Faith Jensen-Ismay, Artistic Director of the Mojalet Dance Collective on works to be produced this Spring and Summer.

An early dance collaboration with Ismay can be seen at: charlesmazarakes.com along with samples from all three of his albums which in addition to "Child of the West" are "Lost Island's on an Imagined Sea" and "Songs from a Stone". They all can be found at CDbaby.com and are listed on iTunes and many other music sites. He plans to continue working with contemporary choreographers "I love having my music danced to. It's a perfect artistic marriage and is tremendously satisfying." He also plans to continue bringing his music into films, television and gaming. "There are so many opportunities today for composers to get their work heard with still enormous untapped potential to introduce your art to the world."

Originally from New York City where he made award winning films and television shows, wrote screenplays, Charles has worked as a designer in publishing, including Simon and Schuster and Family Circle Magazine and advertisng, studied acting at HB Studios where while working on a scene from a Tennessee Williams play met his future wife Debbie. "We worked on a little known one-act play called "Moonie's Kid Don't Cry". We got a good critique Debbie in particular was terrific. In some ways the characters we played mirrored the roles we would play in our own marriage."

While he plays all his own music Charles rarely performs live. "It's exciting but Im happiest composing."
